  • This was my third stay at the Washington Plaza, and the hotel has really improved since my previous stays in 2001 and 2003. It was always a decent place and a great value for the location, but they have continued to move towards a contemporary/minimal decor that is very appealing. The pool is convenient and well maintained, the bar is very stylish, and staff are very helpful. The location is very convenient to many areas, we walked to The Mall, Dupont Circle, 9:30 Club, Rosa Mexicano - none were more than 1.5 miles. Hotel is also very easy to find as you come into DC from the south, straight in on 14th St. all the way to the front door.Highly recommended! I cant believe it was so cheap!

  • This was my third stay at the Washington Plaza, and the hotel has really improved since my previous stays in 2001 and 2003. It was always a decent place and a great value for the location, but they have continued to move towards a contemporary/minimal decor that is very appealing. The pool is convenient and well maintained, the bar is very stylish, and staff are very helpful.   • Problem was did not know when I was to check in at the hotel had booked on line, I parked my own car took four hours till I could check in got stuck in rainstorm , bags were brought with us to the room. Room was small just for two, but liked the view from the balcony.Staff was pleasant and friendly, Great concergie service ,the desk a little stuffy to serious, I had great meals in the no10 thomas except one breakfast recommand to order off the menu cheaper then conitnal or exgetrated breakfest you get no coffee, and get over charge if someone at your table got just one side of the buffet. I was very displeased. Yes no attendent at the gate when leaving the hotel, I paid alot money for the night, had looked at the papers that never said you will pay for parking over night when you paid * a night for three nights thats alot, I heard guest talk they got their room less then mine, it was great trip when we were not at the hotel sightseed, and got the Concert I came down to see. Like I said just few bumps but nothing major the shower was hot the ac did work ,not enought electric plugs but thats okay The pool was great on hot days

  • I did not enjoy my stay. Im glad we modified our reservations from 3 to 1 night. The rooms are very institutional feeling. The walls, bedding, and bathroom were all white. Even the hotel hallways were all white. I felt like I was in an institution (not the good kind). It was very sterile feeling although walking barefoot in the room was a little unpleasant. It was like the rug was moist. The room was pretty simple. You got a TV but no coffee maker for example. What really set me off was when we entered the parking garage. There is no teller so as we drive looking for a space a man runs up. He speaks broken English and asks for our room key but then starts to walk off so we yell for him to give it back. How do they expect us to get to our room if they need the key for verification? I think he just needed to know the room number. We then drag our luggage up to our room and there is a gentleman with our parking tag. He WANTS US TO GO ALL THE WAY BACK DOWN TO PUT IT IN THE CAR! They should have given it to me at the front desk when I checked in. The individuals at the counter that night, by the way, were not very friendly either. Once we are all checked out we try to leave the parking garage (we were already charged for the parking) but theres a gate and no attendant!

  • The hotel experience was great. Everyone that worked there was patient and knowledgeable. They answered all my questions about gettingaround. We used the metro, walked a lot and found a tour that was both reasonable , informative and just about all inclusive. Ive never used room service before but the prices here were great. I give them an A+.

  • Their websites description of the rooms as ""sleek"" is accurate a tad smaller than normal. But other than that and the fact that there is so much to see and do in Washington that is barely a complaint. The staff was very nice and accommodating and the concierge helpful. The pool was easily accessible to the kids with a lifeguard on duty and a poolside beverage bar. Parking is $ a night. But easily offset by the price of the hotel at about $ a night while the others nearby avgd $ plus parking. Great hotel for the price.

  • The night manager for 04/19/07 was very rude and unproffessional. We requested a non-smoking room, he gave us one that had a strong smell of smoke. We requested another one to him. At what he told us that the room was non-smoking and it didnt smell. (basically told us liars). After that he offer us one wich he told straight up that it smell like paint. I have 2 kids one is 7 months the smells is a real concern for my family. This is what this guy never got

  • My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week when we came to DC on vacation at the end of August. The hotel is nice enough but simply decorated and you can tell its kind of old (paint chips etc). The hotel restaurant was delicious but had a limited menu. As far as location goes its not a bad area however its kind of a far walk from all the attractions, smithsonian, capital white house etc. and in the summer the distance makes a difference b/c of the heat. The pool is nice and they have a little grill and bar at night time. Another issue I had was the charge to park your car.... youre paying to stay in the hotel and then they charge you $20+ b/c you have a car! I found that was quite crazy, I know its a city but cmon!Anyway thats all. I probably wouldnt stay there again just b/c of the parking and its distance from the attractions. but the room and hotel itself were fine.

Internet service is included at no extra fee (or at least seemed to be for me, with the package I bought). The hotel is in a good location, and my room had a nice view on Thomas Circle. The one small complaint I have is that the Internet service is not of the high grade I have at home. (This seems to be the case often in hotels.) It works fine for e-mails and looking at most web sites, but it wont pull up big PDF, and even has a problem with some large images.

  • Surprised at how nice the hotel was. Food was excellent and the wait staff were great except for one person. The room was nice and clean and the bed extremely comfortable. Was a great value. Would gladly stay there again.

  • We had to beg for them to keep the kitchen open at night when we got in to get a bite to eat and then it took 45 min for a burger?? Pool was closed during some beautiful days- not sure why?!? A/C didnt work in hotel room - notified desk and nothing was done - or if it was, nothing changed - still didnt work. They were painting the front of the hotel, so you had to go to the curb to get a cab - during rain - and no offer for umbrella, etc. Front desk group was very nice and helpful when you talked to them - so kudos to them! But I think this hotel needs a major overhaul for it to be somewhere I look to stay ever again, and I am not that picky on hotels- you only sleep there, but I wouldnt pick this one again!

  • Stayed here in early Oct. with family and must say really enjoyed this property! It was even hot enough to swim in their large, well kept pool, a real bonus with the kids. City bus to the Smithsonian is right at the door, restaurants and bars just a few steps up 14th street. Overall best value for money hotel to be found.

  • Our family of four visited June 2008-while dad was at business meetings me and the kids walked 4 blocks to the subway...visited museums, shopped, and then headed back to the hotel to relax by the pool. What a great pool. Big, lots of places to lay down and read, poolside bar....We loved it. Its a little outdated(rooms) but clean and quiet. We have stayed at numerous hotels in downtown DC...and will never stay anywhere else again. If you are looking for the modern rooms with red oak and plush linens..this isnt it. But if you want a place for your family to stay..this is it.

My kids enjoyed the pool and they have a lifeguard from 9 to 8. We had a great view of the pool and Thomas Circle. The restaurant staff was also friendly and helpful. Theres no childs menu but the breakfast buffet is half price. We enjoyed our stay and may be back nextyear.

  • The night manager for 04/19/07 was very rude and unproffessional. We requested a non-smoking room, he gave us one that had a strong smell of smoke. We requested another one to him. At what he told us that the room was non-smoking and it didn't smell. (basically told us liars). After that he offer us one wich he told straight up that it smell like paint. I have 2 kids one is 7 months the smells is a real concern for my family. This is what this guy never got

  • NOT worth the money at all. I would rather pay for transportation downtown and stay at a really low budget out of downtown.

  • After reading so many negative reviews I was worried. When we got there the room was small but comfortable. It was clean and served the purpose. We were in the renovated area. My daughter was in a room near the elevator and asked to be moved. The staff took care of it. Speaking of staff, they were very friendly and helped make our stay enjoyable. There was a mix up in the graduation plans. The hotel staff made up for the mix up and a good time was had by all. The food was acceptable but over priced. Im not use to big city prices! Location was great and the pool was the center jewel. The only thing I really didnt like was the price of the parking. I guess thats all part of big city problems. Would I stay there again? Yes.

  • The hotel is amazing, we were 4 persons in the same room and we never feel crowded. Is very clean, modern, the front desk was friendly and is located in a wonderful zone. I would return definitely.

  • The hotel is amazing, we were 4 persons in the same room and we never feel crowded. Is very clean, modern, the front desk was friendly and is located in a wonderful zone. I would return definitely.

Additionally, on my last day as I was dressing and packing to leave, the house keeping staff kept knocking on the door every 15 minutes asking if it was okay for them to come in. That was until they just decided to stop knocking and started walking in. Like I said, however, great location for the price. :)

  • The hotel is immaculate and service was great. It is conveniently located within walking distance to the White House and many other local attractions. The concierge was friendly and well versed on the local transportation options. Would stay there again and recommend to others.

  • The hotel staff was very courteous and polite. The rooms were very clean and not noisy at all. Every where you needed to go was no more than six blocks away, Metro was only three blocks. There is no way you can get lost, everything is so easy to find. Great Hotel and Staff! Would certainly recommend it to everyone.

  • This is my favorite hotel in DC, it usually has very reasonable prices and the perfect location for people who dont have a car (a short walk to Dupont Circle for excellent dining or nightlife, a slightly longer walk to Chinatown for buses or bargain shopping, a quick train ride to all the attractions like the Smithsonian, the memorials, Capitol Hill, Arlington Cemetery, etc, a 15-20 min bus ride to Georgetown with bus right across the streeet, a $10 cab ride to Adams Morgan for the best bars and lounges in town). The neighborhood is boring but safe and you can find the necessities close by, and as I said, the more lively neighborhoods are very close. Cant say much about the amenities, we only come in to sleep and shower, and the rooms are more than adequate for that, quite comfortable, weve never had a problem with anything. The staff is always accommodating, they let you check in early or check out late if the room is available, and they are quick with the process. My only disappointment during the last stay was that the pool was closed for a few hours for technical reasons and they reopened just as we were leaving, which was kind of bad luck since the pool was the main reason to get this specific hotel. I did get a nice tan though. And in case someone from the hotel administration is reading, I wish they would get a coffee machine for the lobby, the homestyle mini coffeemaker stuff with fake creamers that they have in the rooms is NOT real coffee, no one drinks that, and the restaurant charges something like 5 bucks for a fresh cup. Overall, though, no complaints.

We liked the dressing room separate from the facilities that allowed more people to get ready at the same time. It is about a 10 minute walk to 2 Metro stations in a very active and safe area to walk.The one tiny drawback was pay computer access in the basement that was expensive and did not even work properly. At least one free computer in the lobby would have been a benefit.

  • I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the hotel and comfort I received during this stay, even though I paid less than $100. Even more assuring was free access to the Internet. As a business traveller who cares for three things: good bed, quiet and clean room and access to the Internet, preferably at no cost, the Washington Plaza satisfied this traveller immensely. DUring the short stay, I encountered friendly staff, smiling guests (dead giveaway that the hotel is excellent).For sure the next time I come to DC, I will choose this hotel. Highly recommended!!

  • So bad that we left w/o staying even 1 nt. We arrived at our rm & encountered a half-dressed man - in the room we had keys to! After outrage, the mgr upgraded us to the """"nicest room in the hotel"""", which had broken bedside lights and no cable tv or movies! Engineering said that the cable/movies dont work on this tv. We walked out and stayed elsewhere. For the kind of money this hotel charges, the facilities and service were horrible and I would urge people to stay far away. I would give it a big fat zero.

In the bathrom no ventilation leaving no chance to use the mirror becuase of a steam after taking a shower. Major complaint - use of garage. No instructions were given on garage usage. My inquiries at the front desk did not produce any result either. This hotel is definetely not worth the money I paid.
