  • Having stayed in tiny rooms in New York, we were pleasantly surprised at the large suite. Our family of four was comfortable with a queen, queen couch bed and roll away and we still had loads of room including a kitchenette with table. Everything was working and every staff member we met was very friendly and helpful. We will stay there again. The building is older, but we prefered having more room than in a new hotel. Reasonably priced.

  • Great Location, convenient to Rockefeller Center, Times Square, Grand Central and subway to the rest of the city. Excellent selection of restaurants within walking distance. Grand Central Market is idea for the kitchenette in suite. Friendly, helpful staff. Clean comfortable, not deluxe, but the location, room size and kitchen are all bonuses. Easy taxi ride from Penn Station and convenient to La Guardia. Recommended.

  • Reserved a 2-bed room for my family for one night while waiting to fly out next day. Front desk couldnt find my reservation at first, then said all 2-bed rooms were gone. Said they were giving an upgrade and had me pay for room. Got upstairs and found pull out sofa. Front desk said that was an upgrade and reservation was really just a request. Then they changed the lock on the room for no reason. Stay here at your own risk!!!!!!

  • We have three teenage children so finding an affordable hotel to accomodate all of us in New York is difficult. This hotel has huge suites! We were all amazed. Clean, comfortable and very convenient. Highly recommend and would definetly return.

  • We couldnt have been happier with this hotel. Ive stay in NYC several times at the expected small rooms with most hotels. This was a real surprise. We felt like we had our own apartment in Manhatten. Plenty of space, and great service from the staff.

  • Our family of 6 had an excellent experience at Eastgate Tower. The hotel has a turn-around type drive that allows you to unload w/out stopping your vehicle in the street, along with a very friendly doorman/bellhop to assist w/ luggage. The room w/ 2 dbl beds and a full kitchen comfortably accommodated our family (3 adults and 3 children) without feeling cramped. The bathroom was good size and had a window that opened. Hotel workers were very friendly and helpful. Location was good - about 3-4 blocks from Grand Central Station, and about a 20 min. walk to Times Square. Only complaint would be parking - hotel staff parked our vehicle but we were not advised of any charge until check-out and it was very expensive. Overall a great hotel - especially an excellent choice if you have a large family or just want a bigger room. We would definitely stay here again!

  • We loved everything about this hotel. I was traveling with my dad my 15 month old and my best friend. The room was great and VERY spacious with a kitchen, living room with pull out couch and full size dining room table. Tree lined streets in Murray Hill area. I was worried about not having enough room for all of us and the stroller and everything else that I needed to bring for the baby. I had heard that even though the picture makes the rooms look large that they are actually very small in N.Y. so I was worried about that, luckily my brother is a captain for one of the airlines and hes based out there so he went over to inspect it for us before I made the reservation. He said it was great with plenty of room and he was right. It looks as if the building used to be an apartment building that they changed to a hotel. We had a one bedroom suite and I cant say enough good things about the hotel truly. We didnt use the fitness room but with all the walking we did we didnt need it. It isnt in the middle of Times Square but we walked there everyday no problem or took a cab or subway. The restaurant menu from Cafe Trend was in our room and they deliver to our hotel, food WAS AWESOME!! Cant believe how extensive the menu is and how quickly they got it to you, seriously fast! The food was unbelievably inexpensive (another thing we worried about in Manhattan, over priced food) and delicious, we ate there almost every meal. London Broil, salad, bake potato, bread and drink $9.95 and delicious! Comfortable hotel, tree lined quiet street! Loved every minute of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I booked the Eastgate Tower hotel based on reviews on Travel online; all were spot on. The staff was great and very helpful when I needed directions or requested additional coffee. when I arrived, I nicely asked for a studio on an upper floor and on the bigger size and he obliged without a hitch. Based on what I had heard about NYC, I expected a box, but this room was large with enough room for two. The bed as a tiny bit hard but after a day of walking it did not pose a problem. The hotel is walking distance from Times square and Broadway and that way really cool. It is also close to grand central station and the subway which is also a bonus. BTW, NYC was great!!!

  • I have been coming to NY for 30 years and I used to be a city tour guide in NY as well so I was in NY several times a week. This is by far the best hotel for the value that I have ever stayed at. Rooms were large and comfortable. Staff was so helpful and friendly. It is a short walk to the subway and cabs were easy to get as well. The restaurant was closed but there are plenty of other places to go. I love this hotel and the staff. I am definitely returning. I stayed here with several friends and we had plenty of room for all of us compared to the pint sized rooms I have stayed in before - this was a luxury!

  • I felt like I really lucked out with this hotel. The location was perfect - within 3 blocks of Grand Central and even in 25 degree weather, easy to commute. Although I did set off the smoke alarm in the room when I used the broiler (nobody cooks in NYC, apparently), having the kitchen made the place feel like home away from home. The room itself was furnished ok, not cutting edge decor, but was comfortable, clean and efficient. The bed was very comfy. The bath was very clean with more towels than I needed. Housekeeping did a great job.

  • This is a quiet residentail spot in Murray Hill w/in a few blocks of good subway and bus lines and wlaking distance to many things. For the money you get a kitchenette and knowledgeable staff. It was slightly worn but what a deal. I would use this again, particularly, for longer stays.

  • Great hotel, good location, clean rooms, loved having the kitchenete, bad reservations policy! We had reserved a room with 2 queen beds, were given a room with only 1 queen bed. Told them we needed 2 beds, that is why we reserved it that way. Was told all rooms cost the same but you are given whatever is in inventory. Other than that, staff was very friendly.

  • Spacious, clean and comfortable without the glitz and expense of the better known hotel chains. With the abundance of good, kid friendly and reasonably priced restaurants in the area we hardly used the well supplied kitchen. An easy walk to both cross-town and north-south buses; six blocks to Grand Central Station and subway access. Gracious, very helpful, multi-lingual staff. Free computer access for airline check in and printing boarding passes. Highly recommend this hotel as a home away from home for anyone wanting to explore and feel a part of New York City. We felt safe walking day and night.

  • Got a deal on this hotel so took it. A little old looking, old carpeting. Cracking in the washroom. The appealing factor was the microwave,sm fridge, utensils, dishes. Kitchenette wasnt useful since we werent going to cook but being able to keep our drinks & desserts cold was useful. Looks like many nicer looking hotels dont have mini fridges. We both enjoyed making coffee every morning and every night before we slept (decaffeinated) with our dessert treats was an added bonus. We ended up with 2 king beds but only needed 1 so all our clothes were on the other. Great size for what I have been reading about sizing. Washroom was a tad small for liking. No fan or window. Fit 1 person at a time. Water pressure wasnt the best but workable. Always had hot water morning & night. A small unpleasant odour (smelly rags) but quickly dissipated once we got the fan/air con circulating every day. Good location close to Grand Central Stn but a bit of a walk 7-8 blks. 39th not so great looking but not dangerous either. Take 3rd Ave/Lexington or 42nd St, great safe walk. Wont stay again based on the next time we want a little closer to subway station since we walk everywhere-night time can be a little of a drag to also walk back. Didnt want to shell out for rude taxi drivers. No rest or food in the hotel was disappointing. Staff was nice, helpful, friendly.

  • I frequently travel to New York on both business and pleasure and would definitely recommend this hotel. This time I was here with my wife and daughter. The people that have given it bad marks either have champaign tastes or havent visited New York very much. This room was huge by NYC standards (about 400 sq ft), complete with kitchen, bathroom, multiple closets, couch and queen bed. It was clean and decent. My wife is extremely sensitive to mold and chemical smells and seemed to do fine at this hotel, although it certainly is far from new. So what that the decor is dated and in need of updating? No bedbugs or roaches. Overall not bad - really! I just want to sleep here for the night, not buy the place - which you definitely feel like youre doing when staying in a midtown hotel. We spent $* plus taxes on a nights stay. On this particular night I couldnt find anything less that $* and many over $*in midtown that were three stars and above. Thats a months rent in many parts of the country. We live in a very nice, new house in the suburbs, and trust me folks, youll be fine if you stay at the Eastgate Tower. The location is great for sightseeing, Times Square, shows, etc. You wont want to walk there, but its just a $* cab ride away. Because the hotels on a cross street (39th), to get a cab you either use the one thats dropping off hotel guests or walk a half block to 3rd Ave and get one (20 drive by every minute). Lots of nice bars and restaurants on 3rd between 30th and 40th. Save your money for a half price show ticket and stay here!

  • Just got back from a 6 night stay in a Studio Suite at this hotel. Everything about it was great. It is not fancy or lux, but very clean, convenient, and friendly. The location was perfect, near buses and Grand Central Station. Requests for extra towels and to fix a running toilet were answered promptly. Many resturants nearby deliver(the in-house resturant was being renovated). Dont miss the Middle-Eastern resturant on the next block--on Fri and Sat nite they have live music and a Belly Dancer!

  • Nice hotel, good location! can take taxis to get anywhere we want to in manhatten b/w 5-10$. We spent about 100$ on taxis for the 4 days we stayed there. All hotels have a very old looking facade. This is the first time we went to New York and this hotel though old looking was very clean. Kitchen space is cramped but we carried pre-cooked food and used the fridge and microwave only. Could have used knowledgeable staff for help with sight seeing but they did offer help by looking online.

  • Welll , Yes the hotel room is spacious ,but they have no amenities! no resturaunt/lounge/convenient store etc...also it is so far of the beaten path you cant even hail a cab we had to travel to 3rd street ,much of our savings for this hotel got consumed by time and travel extras. The room was clean, it seemed to be better suited for someone on extended business it layed out more like an apartment. Definately not a luxary suite !after the front desk notably could feel our disappointment one and only one of the staff went out of his way to salvage our trip he went to 3rd ave to get our transportation for us (which of course we tipped him for his extra effort) other than that reception was unfriendlyI chose this hotel based on others reviews ,this is the only reason why I am placing time to record our experience. Goodluck New York is great!

  • At the rate I was given, this hotel was a terrific bargain. The decor was slightly tired but the room was enormous, as quiet as my house in New Hampshire, and very comfortable with a very well equiped kitchen. Plus there was full room service available. Location is good in a residential neighborhood with many 24-hour delis and convenience stores, three blocks from Grand Central Station and a major subway terminal. Service was always friendly as prompt. A perfect home away from home in New York City.

  • Enjoyed our stay. The staff: friendly, kind and helpful. Rooms: Rooms are big, comfortable beds, even sofa bed was comfortable, clean rooms daily and no noise. Attractions: Near, Grand Central is perfect walking location made it easy to get anywhere. Restaurants: Very convenient...we enjoyed The Frontier Restaruant for breakfast, Paxs Delis also had good breakfast and cheap, and Pizza places around the corner were good. Would come back. Taxis were also easy to get. Definately recommend.

  • This hotel was the cheapest we could find. I was totally taken back by how clean and large the rooms were. It was like renting an apartment. The dining and living areas were very large. We only stayed one night so we didnt use the kitchen but if we were to stay more the kitchen is perfect. The bedroom had two queen beds and there was a queen sofa/bed in the living room. Perfect for family of 6. I would definately stay here again. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. There was parking available right at the hotel and places to eat and shops within walking distance.

  • I had a pleasant experience at this hotel and would stay again. Please read on for details.Positives: Great location near Grand Central Station; Clean; Felt safe; Large rooms and suites with kitchenettes---refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishes and silverware, and coffee maker with complimentary coffee. We ate out all the time but could have saved money by preparing meals in our suite. We did stock our refrigerator with drinks and snacks that we bought near the hotel, which was pleasant, convenient, and ecconomical; Lots of closet space and room to spread out; Lovely staff---warm, courteous, professional, efficient, unobtrusive; Reasonable price for NYC; Nice amenities---shampoo, lotion, hair dryer, ironing board and iron, etc.Less Positive: No restaurant, bar, or room service; I had a lukewarm shower a couple of days when I got a late start; The bed was adequate, but not more than adequate; The kitchenette is a great feature but also subjects one to cooking smells of other hotel guests. We noticed a strong fish odor one night; however, to put it in perspective, the odor was really not much more offensive than the common sight of room service trays in the hallways of much more expensive hotels; Small, cramped lobby; No fitness facilities;

  • Its a rare thing in NYC -- a hotel thats in between a fleabag and the Plaza. This hotel is convenient to the tunnel, Grand Central Station, and almost any east side or mid-town location. Its clean & comfortable. I had a big comfortable room. Somehow my partner got a suite on the 20th floor that was huge. The bed was softer than I like, but that may be just one room. The staff is very friendly and helpful.

  • We stayed for one night to attend a concert at Madison Square Garden, and a doctors appointment the next day, both of which were in walking distance. The rooms are very large and comfortable, we had a 2 bedroom suite on the 16th floor with a great view. The staff was very helpful and pleasant, we would recommend Eastgate for everyone, and plan on staying again.
