  • Made our reservations directly through Holiday Inns website and got confirmation number. But when we arrived they did not have our rerserved room! They tried to give us a smoking room which smelled aweful. We gave up and took a smaller room with lesser accomodations. We were still charged for the nicer room we had originally reserved. Bathroom was not clean and hotel lobby is located on 15th floor so you have to walk far and take two elevators before you get to your room. Ive stayed in many hotels in Chicago. Youll find better choices elsewhere.

  • We enjoyed the hotel and found everything that we needed to be within walking distance. The hotel bar has a great view and we found the staff to be wonderful. The only downside of the hotel was the pricing on the breakfast. The buffet was nothing special and it was 20 dollars and menu was similarly priced lunch and diner looked more in line.

  • It was my first time in Chicago and we loved this hotel, the concierge and all staff were very helpful at all times, with a smile and nice attitude. Which for me is the most important thing in a hotel after cleaness and comfort. We loved the Sky bar and their food, specially the ceviche! The hotel room was clean, comfortable and the pillow menu a plus! Riverwalk within steps and everything else in the city. Ah! The restaurant recommendations from the hotel, you got to visit Carnivale Rest. great place, geat food! Definitely would stay here again, the price was ecxellent for the location everything around (hotels) it was double the price.

  • The Holiday Inn Mart Plaza is an awesome hotel in the heart of downtown Chicago. One of the best qualities is that its connected to the Merchandise Mall, which houses the Brown Line subway, so coming from the airport, there is no need to walk the streets of Chicago with your luggage, as you are indoors all the way through the Mart to the hotel. That was the first selling point. Secondly, despite having booked just a standard room (which opens to an interior atrium), we were still offered to upgrade to a room-with-a-view, and we appreciated that gesture (we upgraded) because the view was amazing! It definitely made the trip a lot more worth it staying in a room which looked out onto the city every day & night (vs. the interior atrium). We faced south which looks right down the river and smack-dab onto the Sears Tower. The pool was very nice and relaxing, although the lack of a hot tub was sure felt.We never ate at the hotel restaurant, but we ordered room service one night and it was great. The staff was very nice, and quick.Overall, an awesome experience, and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Chicago. Best points were for location definitely.

  • I just returned from a weekend vacation with some friends, and we all enjoyed our stay at the Hotel. We were surprised by the facilities and the price we payed for our stay. The room was big and clean, nice bathroom and good toiletries provided. The exercise room was big enough and well equipped. I certainly will go back to this Hotel, Good location even when it is really a bussiness hotel. Lots of restaurants and bars close by, 2 blocks from a Metro station.

  • Id been to Chicago many times before but had never stayed here. The hotel is on top of a high-rise (the lobby is on the 15th floor) and, if you can get past the rather generic decor, top-notch. The room was clean and comfortable (with a magnificent view--try and get one that faces out) and the service was unfailingly courteous. The one drawback in my opinion is the location--although its right next to the Merchandise Mart and its rail station, its a bit of a hike both to downtown and the Magnificent Mile area. We ended up eating a lot in the good though standard hotel restaurant because there wasnt much else close by.

  • We were easily able to navigate the ""El"" to commute from OHare to the hotel using directions provided on the hotels website. Due to the holiday, we encountered locked passageways in the Merchandice Mart but an employee of the hotel (the head of house keeping) noticed us and kindly led us through the maze and ensured we reached our destination. We were able to check-in early and our room had a great view of the Chicago River. The hotel had not been updated recently and there was peeling wallpaper in places and other signs of wear and tear, but I still found it to be a good value for the money. With easy access to the food court and the ""El"" we were very pleased with the location. We spent our time seeing the sights and didnt spend much time in the room. The staff was always friendly and helpful when we needed directions on how to get from point A to point B. We were very happy with our choice as it was a good value for the money and conveniently located.

  • Everyone was very helpful and friendly. The security guard on the first floor in the lobby was very great with directions that enabled us to get around the city. Breakfast was very expensivein the hotel restaurant, I probably wouldnt eat there again simply because of the price (but the staff was very good). Easy access to public transportation - the ""L"" was great and much easier to use than I thought it would be. The view of the city from our room was great! It was kind of exciting because the weekend we stayed was the weekend of the marathon, very exciting!

  • This is a decent place to stay but getting to your room is a real chore. If you have wheelchair or stroller you take one elevator to get to the main lobby from the parking lot (the alternative is a hike up a long and steep staircase). Then you take another elevator to the hotel lobby on the 15th floor. Then you take a third elevator to get to your room! The rooms were clean and reasonably large with all the standard amenities. There are some nice views available too. The location is within walking distance to most tourist attractions. Keep in mind that parking in their (inconvienent) parking lot will cost you an extra $22/day. I would stay here again but it wouldnt be my first choice. Ive been to Chicago several times and this place would be in the middle of the pack as far as places that I have stayed.

  • When we were originally booking our trip, we thought the price was too good to be true! Stay downtown at a Holiday Inn for so little? We did some checking and were concerned about some of the reviews we read, especially about the rooms. We decided to pay extra for the guaranteed king bed w/ non-smoking, and were very happy with our stay.

  • When checking in on a recent business trip to Chicago, the front desk personnel noticed that I have booked the room through a discount travel website. Then she automatically assigned me to the worst smoking room in the whole place next to the entry to their exercise room, without even looking to see if there was a non-smoking room. I told her that I am not a smoker. She said, ""The room isnt that bad"". Obviously she had not been in that room. Then, she suggested that next time I book a room directly with them if I wanted a non-smoking room. The smell in the room was so bad that I had to go out in the middle of the first night and get a couple of deodorizer sprays. The room smelled like a filthy ashtray. I had to spend nearly $100 on dry cleaning bill. It seems Holiday Inn have signed up discount travel website to just to fill their worst rooms that would not normally sell under any circumstances. What infuriates me the most is that during my stay, the place was practically empty. For a discount of mare $15 off their regular rate per night, this experience left me with disgust and anger over the management and business relationship between lodging industry and discount travel websites. Lastly but not the least, when checking out of this dump to go to the O?Hare airport, the doorman kept me waiting for a cab (special cab) nearly thirty minutes. The special cab is an off-duty cab of his buddy who splits proceeds of the fare with him. That just tops it all with nightmare experience with the Holiday Inn.

This amounts to bait and switch.Size of room, service and food (Breakfast) did not fit the price. Plus the parking lot down a long set of icy stairs. There are too many nice hotels in Chicago to stay here.

  • May be a litte away from Michigan avenue, but didnt bother me. Besides, its close to highway exit. People woking at this hotel were very nice & friendly. Room I stayed had great view of the city. I took a lot of pictures. Room was nice enough to me although its not four seasons room. Overall, I was very happy to stay here.

  • My family and I were overall dissatisfied with our stay. We had a horrible experience with the valet service. We waited and waited for our car and finally an hour later got to drive downtown!! It was awful. I will not stay here again. It was the most expensive Holiday Inn I have ever heard of!!! Way over priced!!

  • I love the Holiday Inn at the Mart. Great Loby bar and friendly people. I stay here once or twice a year and have never had a bad experience. As a seasoned traveler I find that you are treated as you treat others. I always book on line, and rarely with the Holiday Inn web site. I have had several upgrades when rooms are available by simply asking for them. I will continue to be a customer here.
