  • The room was tiny. I felt like I was trapped in a shoe box. Our room was right on 7th Ave, so we could hear everything going past evening when we were 10 floors up. One morning we found two mice running across the floor. When we spoke to the front desk they upgrade us to a better room. I would not stay in a standard room at this hotel. Actually I would not stay here again.

  • i was in nyc on business,first and foremost i have stayed at the wellington before,the improvement in the wifi system is dramatic had very high speed which was important to me.the staff all around excellent , bellman desk staff friendly hellpful. clean room . and location cant be beat walk everywhere..its an older hotel so the walls are thick, i never heard any noise at all. comfortable bed, clean bathroom well supplied with towels..cant say enough about this hotel..i will be back again

  • Im a budget traveler and I certainly dont expect luxury accomodations, but this hotel was terrible! The rooms were certainly showing their age and the mattressess had seen better days as well. In the course of my three night stay, I was moved to three different rooms because they were either too hot (in February) or too noisy. The staff was fairly helpful and finally put me in a room that was away from the street noise, but I woke up each time the radiator came on during the night because it made such loud knocking noises. Very 1970s style decor complete with chocolate brown sink, tub, toilet and bathroom tiles. Biggest annoyance of all was NO COFFEE MAKER in the room and NO ICE MACHINE in the entire hotel. I had to call room service and pay $2 for a bucket of ice one night which I thought was completely unacceptable. Convenient location just a few blocks north of Times Square, but my advice is to stay someplace else. I wont stay at the Wellington again.

  • Im a budget traveler and I certainly dont expect luxury accomodations, but this hotel was terrible! The rooms were certainly showing their age and the mattressess had seen better days as well. In the course of my three night stay, I was moved to three different rooms because they were either too hot (in February) or too noisy.   • The hotel room was a dump. There were so many other places to stay for the same cost. For just $40 more a night, I moved over to the W. This was a 100 times better. This place reminded me of a tour bus drop off spot. The bed was HORRIBLE, ughh!

  • This hotel was in a great location but needs to be renovated. The room felt mugy most of the time and we did notice some mold on one of the walls above the air conditioner. I thnk the major problem was the ventilation in the room. Since we only slept in the hotel and didnt spend much time there we just dealt with it. If your on a budget and can put up with not so great conditions then give it a try. I definatley do not think it is a 3 star hotel though. We will stay somewhere else next time. NYC was great though!

  • Upon checking in we were told that we had been upgraded. The elevators are tiny and very hot, so on the way up to the 27th floor we got nervous but joked about being in the penthouse. We got to our room and it was terrific!! Were pretty sure the unit used to be an apartment - it had a tiny bathroom (with very little ""counter"" space), a tiny kitchenette with a mini-fridge, microwave and sink, a storage closet, clothes closet, king-size bed, and a love seat and desk. But the thing that put it over the top? We had a balcony! It was great for views and checking out the weather.The location was terrific for us - very convenient to the subway, catty-corner to Carnegie Deli where we gouged on cheesecake, and only a 5-10 minute walk from Times Square. All in all, we had a terrific trip!

  • The room was impeccable, very comfortable, decor very pretty. Staff was wonderful, very helpful and plesant. Location was ideal. Loved walking in Central Park right up the street from the Wellington. Would most definitely recommend to friends.

  • I would stay again in fact I am planning a return trip this summer. The staff was great and it was during the holidays. The room was clean. We stayed on the 25th floor with 2 double beds and a terrace with a view of time square. I recommend that room 2539. The subway is right outside the hotel. Take the R train uptown to canal street to go to Chinatown wont be disapppointed. HAVE FUN!!!!

  • The hotel is conveniently located for Broadway theaters, Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. It is clean and quiet. However, I would not stay there again. The room we had was tired and in need of updating. Getting to our room required going down 2 flights of stairs to our elevator. Housekeeping left vacuum cleaner, dirty clothes and garbage outside of our room for the entire 6 days we were there. The mattress was very uncomfortable. I would opt to pay a little more and be in a better hotel next time.

  • We received a free upgrade to a suite which was a pleasant surprise. This is an older hotel but has great charm. The front desk was slightly understaffed but there were plenty of doormen/bellman. There are 2 adjoining resteraunts! One cafe(really GOOD breakfast:)) and a wonderful Greek resteraunt. Treat yourself and enjoy the fabulous food and service! Location cant be beat!! Lets face it people-you dont go to NYC to stay in your hotel room! We would efintley stay here again.

  • We were looking forward to New York City with our Granddaughter. Upon entering the room, I was struck by the heat in the room. We realized that the AC was not on nor was the heat. The bathroom had an exposed pipe that was dangerously hot. One could be easily burned if they touched it. I called the desk and they said that they would adjust the heat in the room. We had to turn on the AC to cool the room. The bathroom was remodeled beautifully but the only ventilation was a window to the roof wall. Anyone on the roof could crawl through it. The beds were lumpy. You could tell it was a tourist room. There was no place to place things in the bathroom. The small counter was taken up with glasses, toiletries, etc. I was disappointed. I also was expecting a coffee maker in the room and there was none. I could not recommend this hotel. I would choose to go elsewhere.

  • We were looking forward to New York City with our Granddaughter. Upon entering the room, I was struck by the heat in the room. We realized that the AC was not on nor was the heat.   • I recently surprised my hubby with a trip to NYC and booked the ""Wellington Hotel"", soley based on the reviews provided here & the price (very reasonable for a 3 star in such a great location!) I was a bit worried, but this hotel EXCEEDED by expectations in everyway. Beautiful lobby, very nice room (Queen) with sitting area, microwave, small fridge - a bit dated, but I like older homes/buildings rather than cold, modern pieces of architecture. Our room was cleaned promptly every morning, staff was friendly and the location was FANTASTIC. Literally just outside the side door is the entrance to the 57th Street Subway Entrance - youre just 2 blocks from Broadway and about 5 from Times Square. I just cannot sing praises enough - well definitely be back. This was my first time traveling with Travelocity, but it certainly wont be my last! I HIGHLY recommend this establishment!

  • I recently surprised my hubby with a trip to NYC and booked the ""Wellington Hotel"", soley based on the reviews provided here & the price (very reasonable for a 3 star in such a great location!) I was a bit worried, but this hotel EXCEEDED by expectations in everyway. Beautiful lobby, very nice room (Queen) with sitting area, microwave, small fridge - a bit dated, but I like older homes/buildings rather than cold, modern pieces of architecture.   • My husband, our two teenagers, and I stayed at the Wellington for seven nights in early July, 2008. The hotel does need some updating, but the hotels location is outstanding. Times Square and Central Park are all within easy walking distances as well as many of the major sight-seeing attractions. Fifth Avenue shopping is only two blocks away. A subway stop is also conveniently located right outside the Wellington. Our room was on the 25th floor with a view of Central Park. At first, I thought the reception desk had made a mistake because I only saw one double bed as I walked into the room. However, around the corner and through another archway was another double bed and another bathroom! We also had two tvs! The staff was very nice. We needed extra pillows, and they were immediately brought up to our room. The staff in the gift shop were also very nice and helpful. The air conditioning worked perfectly in our room, but it was quite stuffy in the corridors and elevators. If you expect luxury, stay someplace else. If you want value, consider the Wellington.

This hotel was within walking distance of Central Park, Times Square, and the Theatre District. There was a train station right outside the door for trips that were beyond walking distance. The hotel was older, but well-kept for the most part. Our room had a king bed that occupied a majority of the small room. There was a small bathroom and a small closet in the room, too. When planning for this trip, we read about the rooms in Manhattan tending to be small; and they were right. Upon our arrival at the hotel, the bell staff quickly offered to take our luggage to our room. This turned out to be particularly helpful after seeing how small and slow the elevators were. Staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful when we approached them. The lobby was often packed with tourists/luggage. There was a small gift/sundry shop in the hotel as well as a cafe. When the time comes to visit Manhattan again, we would probably stay here again.

  • My husband and I were very happy with our room, it was comfortable, and clean, roomy enough for two and quite. We had no view of the city at all but that was ok. By the time we came back to our room for the night we just wanted to lie down and rest our legs. Room service was quick, we asked for extra pillows-big and fluffy. Check in and out was fast and we had no problems with the porters trying to take our luggage for us if we didnt want them to. Excellent locatiion I will be going back and will be staying a the Wellington again. The best vacstion ever! Try the Grey Line tour bus, every informative. Also a warning, finding a rest room is very difficult so keep that in mind while touring the city.

  • This hotel is terrible. It is shabby, drab, & depressing. Low ceilings, stained carpets and bed spreads, terrible old paint job. The price is relatively low but definitely not worth it. My wife refused to sleep in the bed. She sat up all night in her clothes until we could change hotels.

  • We read some previous reviews and were a bit nervous...but what a great hotel!!! If you are looking for a modern hotel, this is not it. It is not a cookie cutter room that the chain hotels offer. What it is: wonderful with alot of personality!! The rooms were a bit small, but larger than I expected. We were upgraded to a room with a balcony which overlooked the city. What a nice surprise. The staff was very friendly, the rooms were clean & comfortable, it was close to everything. The price on the travel website was phenomenal. We would ABSOLUTELY stay there again!!

  • We arrived to an old and dingy suite with no heat. The manager did not hesitate to send us to another hotel (which was 4 star )for the night. The next day we were re-established in a much nicer, very clean room with heat and air conditioning and a view. The rooms are old, the bathrooms are extremely small. However, the staff was honest, gracious and even fun. For my money, thats a very good thing.

  • To my delight, when I booked a room for three people, I was upgraded to a suite with a kitchenette. Granted, it was on a smoking floor, but the room did not smell. For people traveling without kids, the ""east wing"" seems to be better appointed than the side facing Seventh Avenue. For instance, the hallways off the elevator feature mirrors instead of fire hoses, and the heat is easier to adjust in the rooms.
