  • Nice location and good sized room for the money--especially for NYC. Our room had a refrigerator that came in handy. A previous reviewers comments on shabby seemed harsh to me--the bathroom is old but functional . We enjoyed our stay and would visit this hotel again. Good restaurants down the side streets.

  • Nice location and good sized room for the money--especially for NYC. Our room had a refrigerator that came in handy.   • Stayed for 4 week nights at hotel and while the staff was very helpful and accomodating - we left bags there for several hours after check out and they allowed us to check in several hours early - the hotel was doing some re-modeling which was noisy and left the gym closed. The bathroom sink water was dirty; red sandy dirt came out of the spout; and the noise level after hours was very loud. Street sounds, hall sounds and adjoinging room noises could all be heard but the most annoying was the loud closing of a supply room door at all hours by employees. The location was good, close to subways and close enough to walk to many attractions and in a very nice, safe area. Again, the staff was very pleasant (especially the maid service and the door men); the only real issue was the noise. Undecided if I would stay there again.

  • We came back to NYC with our children and the hotel added to our enjoyment. The rooms were large and comfortable;the beds were very comfortable and the staff were friendly, efficient and helpful. Loved it.

  • The hotel staff was friendly and I had no problems bringing my dog. Room was clean however, upon arrival we had to request a plumber because the toilet didnt work. They fixed it quickly. Good value and amount of space for the price. I would stay again.

  • Spent Thanksgiving week-end there. It is good quiet location, 4 blocks from Grand Central. The rooms kitchenette which we did not use much would be very good money saver if you were there for extended stay. The price is a little high but compared to other hotels in Manhattan during the holidays really good value. Staff is exellent, friendly, and knowledgable.

  • This was a very nice hotel. After walking all day around town nothing felt better than a cool room and that nice soft bed. The only problem with this hotel was that our room number kept falling off the door every day. It seems that they are doing alot of remodeling and there are a few glitches in the system but this was a very nice place. A few blocks from Grand Central Station so you can easily use subway to go about town. Staff was friendly and helpful. I would rate this a 9 out of 10. For my first time in NYC I am quite happy and intend to return.

  • This was a very nice hotel. After walking all day around town nothing felt better than a cool room and that nice soft bed.   • A definite bargain and well worth the cost. Besides that they let us check in early (12 noon) and we were surprised at the size of the room. (bigger then we expected). Location wise it is within an easy walking distance of shopping and the theaters. the jazz quartet in their lounge was also an added treat.I definitely would stay there again

  • Stayed 5/11-5/13/07. X at front desk was very helpful but king studio suite (Rm.5S) was dark, dingy, worn carpet and furniture, stale, musky smell. Bath drain blocked and bath tiles had mildew, but asst. manager did nothing when I complained. Finally fixed drain after 2nd complaint. Safe location, easy 5-10min. walk to Times Square, Broadway and Grand Central Station. Service good aside from asst. manager. Rare restaurant had outstanding sweet potato fries, $12 breakfast buffet excellent value (for NYC) . Rare View rooftop bar very nice, great view. Too bad room was so crummy.

  • We had a perfect stay. Really never spoke with employees much. The room & hotel were absolutey fine. Clean. Nothing too fancy. Convenient (5 short blocks to Grand Central) Near a lot of restaurants if needed. Less expensive than every other hotel I checked out. The gym in the basement is VERY nice!

  • Stayed in king studio suite on 5/11/07, front desk service from Michelle was excellent. Room was dated to shabby - worn carpet, furniture, wallpaper, paint peeling, bubbling. Saw at least 8 patches of mildew on the bath tiles plus bath drain was blocked. Complained to assistant manager who did nothing. Complained again next day and they expedited maintenance who cured drain problem. Easy 10 minute walk to Broadway theaters. Rare Bar/grill's breakfast buffet very good, sweet potato fries outstanding, """"famous"""" hamburgers very average. Overall, disappointing stay.

  • The shelbourne is within walking distance to everything. Another bonus is Grand Central is only a few blocks away. I recommend Scottys Dinner at 38th and Lexington for a late , late Dinner after midnight. They Just may have a show. I will stay here whenever I travel to the city.

  • We were warned by the online travel agency that construction was going on, but it was louder than expected. We were woken up every morning by the pounding that seemed to be coming from the next room. The wi-fi worked sporatically, making it near impossible to get any work out or stay in contact with clients. I complained to the front desk and the manager said she would give me a discount on a future stay. She never emailed me that information. The hotel rooms are very nice, but the hotel is 4 blocks from a subway and a bit overpriced for the service or lack there of provided.

  • Because of scaffolding, the facade of the building looked nothing like the photos, but we thought it was a great place. The staff was friendly,responsive to requests, and helpful with directions. Walking distance to lots of tourist highlights and only a few blocks from the subway. It was nice and quiet for sleeping at night in a comfortable bed. Liked the kitchenette, although we didnt really make use of it. Wed stay here again!

  • Because of scaffolding, the facade of the building looked nothing like the photos, but we thought it was a great place. The staff was friendly,responsive to requests, and helpful with directions. Walking distance to lots of tourist highlights and only a few blocks from the subway. It was nice and quiet for sleeping at night in a comfortable bed. Liked the kitchenette, although we didnt really make use of it. Wed stay here again!

  • My mom and I really enjoyed our stay in New York. This hotel was great! It was clean, walking distance from everything. . . .a real New York convenient store within two blocks, real New York coffee shops within a block. . . .comfy beds to sleep in (or watch TV) in the morning. . .great kitchenet to warm up leftovers and prepare midnight snack. It was an excellent Mothers Day getaway! For the price. . . over a special weekend. . .our stay at the hotel really made our time together fun.

  • The hotel was very clean and we found the towels and linens very lush. The beds were most comfortable and a high quality. I enjoyed our visit and will plan to take my family in the spring. It was a girls trip with 4 girls in each bedroom suite. Plenty of room with the suite.

  • My daughter and I went for an extended weekend get-a-way so cost plus location were factors in making our choice. Based on the other reviews we took a chance on this one and it was a great choice. We were concerned on the first night because they were over booked and we had to stay in a smaller room but they did get us moved the next day and all was fine. We stayed in the one room suite. It was nice to have the living room to sit while mapping out our shopping trips. My daughter is used to walking lots but I am not.......the hotel is about 5 blocks from grand central and a short cab ride to most the hot spots. We got daily subway passes a few times and traveled all over the city. The staff at the hotel is very, very nice. The restaurant food is great too. The gym is nice and has up to date equipment, T.V, and separate men?s & women?s locker rooms with a small sauna. We will stay at this hotel again on our next trip to NYC.

  • Our first trip to NY in 9 years was a delight! We found our cute hotel under an awning that said Shelburn. The efficient and friendly doorman had a dapper hat on. The check-in process was quick and painless. Our living room overlooked the Empire State Building! Yes, I said living room. This suite was so roomy, that our 2 giant teenage sons and we 2 parents had all the room we needed to spread out, relax, eat and sleep! Very clean, first class establishment. Walking distance to many attractions and dining establishments.We will definitely return to this lovely hotel!

  • Extremely generous full-service rooms. Very friendly and courteous staff; quiet and great value. Extremely easy to stay organized with a family from the separate coat closet to the full kitchen and the medicine cabinets in the bathroom. A TV in the bedroom as well as in the sitting area makes it easy to keep everyone happy - especially early risers. Desk was a god size for laptop and work space, too.
