  • My husband and I recently spent 4 nights at the Fairmont on Mason St in San Francisco. What a fabulous hotel. Our room was beautiful, spacious and had a big walk in closet. The bathroom was also beautiful and very spacious. We just loved our stay at this hotel. We enjoyed the breakfast in the hotel one morning it was approximately $25 a person, but well worth it as it was more like a brunch. We ate at the the Tonga room in the hotel one night and found that to be very over priced and alittle off beat. The Tonga room charges a $5.00 per person entertainment fee for the band they have playing. The problem is the restaurant charges this fee to your bill even if the band isnt playing. In our case we got to the restaurant at 6:45 and the band didnt start until 8:00. We had no intention of staying there all night, but yet were told we had to pay the fee. The manager did wave it at our request. Other than the restaurant, I cant say one bad thing about this hotel!

  • This hotel has been redone and is absoultely beautiful. We live close to San Francisco, but chose the Fairmont for our 25th wedding anniversary because we knew it would be special. Upon arriving, staff was gracious and helpful. Without any prompting on our part, champagne was delivered to the room. We were on the 20th floor with an expansive view of the whole bay - from the bay bridge to the Golden Gate. The room was clean and well-equipped with flat screen tv, bar, etc. Room service was awesome. I would not hesitate for a second to stay here again. To those who might hesitate because of the cost, remember: ""you get what you pay for."" The cost may seem high, but it is well worth it if you are looking for the true SF experience.

  • Heres the deal on the Fairmont Hotel. Yes this is a quality hotel with lots of charm and history. It is also nicely situated in the center of San Francisco adjacent to the intersection of the two cable car lines. Be careful on several items. First, many rooms have views of an inner courtyard with no view except your neighbors room. If you like a nice view of SF, avoid these rooms at all cost. Second, be prepared to spend some big bucks in the dining room. Free coffee is available in the lobby until about 7:30 AM. After that, its go to the restaurant. Pancakes for $16.00? Give me a break. Dinner will run you about $50 per person. My suggestion is to get a multi day Muni passport and get on the cable cars/street cars to go have your meals. We found a great Italian restaurant (Uncle Vitos) with a nice view of the cable cars 2 blocks away. Hotel was nice and staff was very friendly, but remember everything extra will cost you.

  • I stayed here for two nights for my girlfriends birthday. The staff was very friendly and even upgraded us from a Deluxe room to a Signature Room for free, which was a corner room in the tower. This gave us a magnificent view of the city from two directions, part of the bay, the hotel courtyard and downtown S.F. The bed was extremely comfy, plush down beddings, comforter and pillows made for a great night sleep. The room service and resturants are very expensive. ($19.00 for two eggs, 2 sausage or bacon & toast) -- you get the idea. Thankfully, Chinatown is one block down the street, Union Square is about 4 blocks away. Also the cable cars run next to the Fairmont and straight down to Union Square and the Fishermans Wharf - so a car is optional. If you have a car, parking can be expensive at $50.00+tax a night, so utilizing taxis and cable cars might be in your best interest. Note: HYBRIDS ARE FREE PARKING. So if you can rent a Hybrid, do so for no cost parking. I rented a Hybrid Altima and never paid for parking. (Yay!) I did notice, even from the 12th Floor, I could hear the cable cars dinging often from the streets below. Not enough to bother me, but might bother some. You could also hear people in the hallways sometimes, but it was really no different than other hotels I have stayed in.I enjoyed my stay here, and my girlfriend was awed by staying in such a fancy place for her suprise birthday trip present. Id recommend this to others. It was a great experience.

  • The building is marvelous, clean and well situated to access many areas of the city on foot. The staff are wonderful, very professional, friendly and attentive. The food is top of the line. Ive stayed at two other highly rated hotels in the last 6 months and spent my first stay at the Fairmont on January 16-19, I would not stay anywhere else while in SFO!

  • my mother and i stayed for four nites. the hotels decor was marvelous and the staff quite friendy. however, the walls were paper thin (could hear every door close in the hall, could clearly hear a neighboring rooms conversations and could hear the elevator ""ding"" every time). the rooms were very comfortable and cozy. unless you have money to throw away dont eat at the hotels breakfast! $75 for two okay plates? oh and the fire alarm went off at 2AM. after evacuating to the lobby some man from the hotel simply said ""you can go back to your rooms now"" offering no explanation.

  • My friend and I stayed there for 2 nights in February and it was great. The service was excellent, the location was excellent, the room was excellent and the price was unbelieveable for a Fairmont in the heart of San Francisco. Would definitely stay there again if the price is anywhere near what we paid .

  • Hotel lobby is beautiful; we stayed in the old part of the hotel for the charm factor. Our room was small and close to the elevator and apparently, the maids closet. Walls seemed to be paper thin and therefore our room was very noisy. Our view - well, there really was no view - we looked out into a roof surrounded on four sides by the inner walls of the hotel. Recommend taking a taxi or cable car up Powell to get to the hotel - unless one is avid at cardio!

  • Hotel was just amazing! We upgraded our rooms to the newer part of the building (The tower rooms) explained to the front desk clerk that this was my first visit to san fran and would love a view. OMG he gave me a room with full bay views...the views were breathtaking! The hotel as a whole is just beautiful, so much history! This is an older hotel, so dont expect clean modern design...it is grand extravagant and just wonderful. The hotel is near everything! word to the wise the hills are beastly near by...bring good walking shoes! The staff was so helpful. Visit the Tonga Room if you get the chance! it is so wonderfully over the top tacky...complete with indoor thunderstorms a band on a boat and huge drinks in pineapples!!! I had a blast there! i would stay at The Fairmont again in a heartbeat!

  • The room we had was beautiful. Small with no view, but we were there to visit family so no big deal. Checked in around 3:00 p.m. & left. Returned around 11:30 (1:30 a.m. ""our time"") so were tired. Upon turning down the bed saw what appeared to be blood or ketchup across the top edge of the sheet, then found an area about the size of a fist that had an unidentifiable mess on it on the corner of the sheet. The front desk immediately sent someone up to change the bed, but they were only going to change the top sheet. We insisted the entire bed linens be changed. My husband went to talk to the manager on duty and was told no one had been in our room (our point!) & then suggested that maybe the airconditioner leaked on the bed (it was a window unit 10-12 feet from the bed). She never once apologized for the inconvenience and insisted on seeing the sheets. We decided we didnt want to drink out of the glasses and had already filled the ice bucket. The next day we returned to our room to find water in the ice bucket, the same glass sitting on the dresser, and white residue on the unused glass. The 3rd evening of our stay we returned to find ""residue"" in the toilet that was not left by us. Again the ice bucket had not been emptied and the ""fresh"" washcloth I picked up had 2 black smudges on it. Other than those problems, the bed was extremely comfortable, had a huge walk-in closet and a wonderful flatscreen TV. Lobby was beautiful. Room Service staff was very pleasant. We were not willing to pay $* for breakfast, so only had coffee.

  • We absolutely loved the Fairmont. Its location on Nob Hill is ideal -- we considered a hotel in Union square but were so glad we chose the Fiarmont instead. It is elegant yet not stuffy, and the neighborhood is very quiet at night, unlike the very very tourist-y Union square. All the staff were helpful and friendly, and although the cocktails were pricey, the lobby was worth the price. Dont miss the kitsch delight of the Tonga room -- tiki, fabulous, and self-aware, at least i hope so! Criticisms wed read were true: there is no coffee in the rooms and you have to go to the st; level to buy your own coffee each morning, and you have to pay for the privilege to work out (but walking in the city solves that). If the Fairmont were to install coffee makers or offer free coffee until later than 7am, I would rate it perfect. San Francisco is a beautiful place to visit, and the Fairmont is a fantastic part of the experience.

Valet car service free if you drive a hybrid. The deuxe tower room had a view that was priceless. Love the history of the hotel. The breakfast buffet was well worth the $28. Will stay at this hotel everytime I am in SF.

  • We spent three days midweek in December. The service was excellent, the staff exceedingly helpful and friendly, the room spacious and clean and the overall experience superb. The magnificent grand lobby, decorated for Christmas created an elegant atmosphere in which to read a morning paper or sip an evening martini. The dining experience was a bit pricey and better options are available elsewhere, within a few minutes ride by cable car, elsewhere in the city. The bed was very comfortable and room, which faced the interior court, was very quiet. Access to other points of San Fransisco by cable car and bus was quite easy. It is definitely an experience worth repeating.

  • We spent three days midweek in December. The service was excellent, the staff exceedingly helpful and friendly, the room spacious and clean and the overall experience superb. • From the minute you arrive you know that you are in a luxury hotel. The room and bathrooms are spacious and comfortable. The breakfast buffet which includes everything under the sun was memoriable and the scones are to die for. All the staff were helpful and curteous. We enjoyed our stay very much.

  • Got a great deal at * per night plus taxes for an inside room queen room. Asked for an upgrade to a king bed and got it at no extra cost. Checked in at 12pm and given a room. Bought all day cable car tickets for $11 which also includes the Muni so it was easy to get around using the maps given at the consierge desk. Charge to use internet in business center. Tonga room at the hotel was fun to visit. Staff friendly and helpful.

  • Hotel staff were wonderful. The hotel was awesome! But the view from our room was the greatest!! The upgrade suggestion we got at check in was the best thing we could have gotten. For just a little extra $ we got a room with a killer view and I have pictures to prove it!!!

  • The room was very clean and the size and layout were adequate. Room service was exceptionally fast and the desserts ordered were what you?d expect from an excellent restaurant. One of the two bath robes was missing from our room. During our stay we had an unfortunate incident with the valet damaging our vehicle and then falsifying documents to cover it up (security tapes showed the truth). Correcting the situation took longer than it should have with several in-person discussions during our stay as well as back-and-forth phone calls after the visit.I?m disappointed in Fairmont.

  • Very nice and historic hotel. Old hotel refurbished to keep its historic charm combined with todays amenities. We got a great rate through the travel website which allowed to enjoy more of the hotel and surroundings. Its great location at the center of the Cable Car system gave us quick access to all the cities attractions.

  • The hotel is close enough to the noise and activities of Union Square, Chinatown and Fishermans Wharf but on top of the Nob Hill surrounded by an aristocratic area of the city. Thats the way I can described my experience at the Fairmont Hotel.Grace Cathedral and the only mansion that survived the 1906 earthquake and fire were in front of the hotel. James at the front desk was extremely helpful all the time. A TV serial called ""Hotel"" was actually filmed there during the 1980s. As remember watching it when I was a child. The rooms were clean and the staff was very polite all the time.

  • I have travelled to San Francisco many times and this has got to be the best area and if not the best hotel I have ever stayed at. The Fairmont is at the top of Nob Hill so it has an incredible view (its next door to the Top of the Mark). Its in a beautiful area, and right across from Grace Cathedral. Its walking distance to Union Square, and not far from North Beach. If you dont feel like walking (it is hilly here), the cable car line is right outside the hotel which is very convenient. The hotel itself is impressive especially the lobby with the marble columns and grand stairway. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. We stayed in the main building and had a beautiful view, plus our room was very spacious. I truly felt pampered here. I cant wait to go back!

  • Stayed while my husband attended a medical conference. I was shocked at how outdated the hotel was. Granted the public spaces were lovely and felt very grand, but the room itself was old, old, old. Everytime someone uttered a word in the hall or other rooms we heard it. We heard the toilets flushing & the bathroom sinks running from the floors above us. The cleaning staff was so loud while working both yelling and slamming doors, I actually had to ask them to quiet down during my babys nap...and my baby would sleep through a trainwreck. The chair in our room was so dirty, stained, and tattered I wouldnt let my toddler crawl on it. The valet parking is expensive but convenient and the much advertised happy hour had a line of people waiting an hour before it opened. Happy to have experienced the history of the hotel but wont be staying there again.

  • This hotel took my breath away when I walked in. Marble floors in the bathroom, gorgeous decor all around, and extremely comfortable rooms, as well as good gift shops and great meeting facilities. I probably wouldnt have chosen this hotel due to the price if I were just looking online, but after staying here, I understand why. It was extremely classy.

  • We have stayed at the Fairmont for both our honeymoon a year ago, and now our 1st anniversary. We are in love w/the hotel! The view from our room is phenomenal! We could see from the Golden Gate to the Bay Bridge and everything in between so beautifully - the night, the morning sun, the sunsets...breathtaking if you love SF. Everything the best quality, private, VERY friendly and nice staff, the Conciere gave us 2 suggestions that were perfectly what we wanted! We didnt have the time to use any other part of the hotel, because we enjoy touring the city, and eating in local cafes. For romance, comfort, peacefulness, extravagance in a friendly way, the Fairmont is heaven. The only thing I could say I missed, was having fresh coffee in the morning available immediately. One must go downstairs to their coffee cafe that goes out to the street, or use room service which is 24 hr a day. We used room service to our delight last year, but just didnt want that particular splurge this time. The cost is up there for this room, but ooohhhhhhh, how we love it!

  • Rooms are wonderful, be aware that although they say they offer smoking when you call, they neglect to mention that its only in 1 wing and it required me upgrading for $40 additional night. Lobby is very beautiful and work out facility opens early for early risers. Sign up for the Fairmont Club (no charge) and you get free internet and fitness facility access!
