  • After reading all the reviews of this hotel before I made my decision to book it, I found my experience to be better then expected. We had a few minor snags with our room, but the staff was definately helpful and helped make our vacation amazing. We got upgraded to the larger tower and we had a beautiful view of San Francisco. Dont be afraid to speak up if youre not happy, this staff will definately make sure youre happy. Some other awesome things about this hotel is the location, their are so many things to see, such as Chinatown, SFMOMA, Coit Tower, and other things. The cable cars run outside of the hotel, and are fun way to get to different destination and a lot of cool places are walking distance from this hotel. Chinatown is about 10 to 15 minute walking distances, the SFMOMA is almost the same amount of walking, and their are tons of places to eat. I totally fell in love with Loris Diner. Oh and before I forget to mention the interior of the hotel and the lobbies are beautiful, I couldnt believe I was staying at such a nice hotel.

  • After reading all the reviews of this hotel before I made my decision to book it, I found my experience to be better then expected. Staff was courteous and very helpful. Hotel was clean. Expensive to eat there but there are tons of wonderful places to eat all around the city. Never had a bad meal in San Francisco!

  • My reservation was for a room with a king size bed but I was put into a TINY room with a queen size bed. When I informed the front desk that there seemed to be a mistake they immediately told me they would put me in a king room and I got the impression that this ""mistake"" is a common practice on the hopes that people will simply accept the smaller room. The second room was better but certainly did not justify the ridiculous price. The toilet in the room would not flush unless you held down the lever for 10-15 seconds. The coffee maker was on top of the fridge but had nowhere to plug it in (I had to put it on the sink in the bathroom so I could actually use it). There is a lot of street noise if you are on the 5th floor or lower. The TV was nice (42"" LG plasma) and had about 35 channels with HBO and network channels in HD. The gym was very small and cost $12 a day to use (or $30 for the whole stay). I dont see how they justify extra money for a gym when the regular room rate is ~$300/night. Parking is $50/day so if you stay here, dont get a car unless you absolutely have to. I needed to use the internet to place a quick order and they charge $10 for 20 minutes. Again, this place is nickel and diming you at every turn. The heavenly beds are great and the location is terrific, but the limited amenities definitely DO NOT justify the prices. A Comfort Inn would have been just as good and around $150 less. This hotel is mainly suited to pretentious people with money to burn. Look elsewhere.

  • I stay at the hotel for a weekend trip. The hotel staff were very friendly and attentive. I really liked the simple and yet elegant room design. Only one thing i wasnt crazy about was the elevator. It sorts of jerked when stopping at each floor.

  • The Westin St. Francis is superb, located on Union Square and Cable car stops at the door, historic hotel but excellently refurbished with wonderful beds and linens. Staff extremely helpful. We upgraded at checkin and received a corner room with sofa, 3 chairs, desk and a view of Union Square & Geary St. for $* a night more. Concergies were very helpful in helping us find our way around the city. Loved San Francisco, except for the panhandling, and the Westin St. Francis especially wonderful.   • I was offered an ?upgrade? when I checked in and got to the room to find a Henry Bed (pulls out from the wall). This hotel is old and lacking compared to the other Westin?s I have stayed at. The location is great but that doesn?t make up for this overpriced dinosaur.

  • Great location right on Union Square but the room was showing its old age - air conditioning didnt work well and the temperature never got below 75 degrees despite being set to the lowest temperature (60) and the fan on high and the drain didnt work well and must have been clogged bc youd get 4 inches of water during a shower. Front desk didnt seem too concerned when I told them. Everything else was fine but its not like I spent much time there. They also charge for every single extra that other hotels might provide free (eg. internet/business center). Bed was just ok. Not a bad price. Overall, I wouldnt say the hotel is doing a great job of keeping up with its 4 star rating. Check out the other 4 star hotels ... maybe Intercontinental.

  • Very posh. The hotel was clean, the staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room was nice, large and well appointed. The bed was not very comfortable. Great location.

  • the hotel room was bad old and smelly and we changed 2 rooms to get a decent one but the manager was very helpfull, I was forced to get a diffrent earlier flight to make it there on time which had connection in Burbank and I lost my luggage and the clothes for the wedding I am attending

  • the hotel room was bad old and smelly and we changed 2 rooms to get a decent one but the manager was very helpfull, I was forced to get a diffrent earlier flight to make it there on time which had connection in Burbank and I lost my luggage and the clothes for the wedding I am attending

  • What a beautiful hotel and welcoming staff. The hotel is perfectly located on Union Square and is next to a cable car line - so we could get all over quickly. If you like grand old hotels - this one is perfect!

  • What a beautiful hotel and welcoming staff. The hotel is perfectly located on Union Square and is next to a cable car line - so we could get all over quickly. If you like grand old hotels - this one is perfect!

  • Stayed a week at the Westin St Francis - what a wonderful hotel - a great town! Heavenly bed! Heavenly shower! Heavenly flat screen tv!! The accommodations were sumptuous. The service devine. Service staff found out I was celebrating a milestone birthday and had a cake, a split of wine and silver on the table when we got in from running around all day, along with a personal note from the Controller! Such a wonderful experience. Would never stay anywhere else in San Francisco. Amazing!

  • Prime location for venturing throughout the city(downtown). No need for use of personal vehicle for proximal locations of touring (attractions). Trollycar is the best mode of mobility. Old hotel but historically beatiful with much history from early years. Parking is quite expensive(daily) .Cant go wrong with this hotel and yes I will certainly stay here again. . Staff polite and very courteous and assistive.

  • Frankly, I needed a ""mileage run"" on Delta to help keep my Medallion status, and San Francisco from Atlanta generates a great number of miles for a domestic trip. SF is always in my online travel website Fare-watcher, and a great rate popped up. While I seldom book flight + hotel packages, this deal at this hotel was too good to pass up. I was warmly and enthusiastically greeted by X at the reception desk, and was given a generous and appreciated upgrade to a 28th floor tower room. WOW. Panoramic view over Union Square of this great city, large & very up-to-date room, large and beautifully-appointed bath, walk-in size closet, and the usual Westin ""Heavenly Bed"" all added up to a great hotel experience. Not sure what my ""standard room with double bed"" as booked on online travel website would have been like, but it would not be able to compare with what I received. This hotel has a great location for the usual San Francisco activities, and is beautiful, extremely well-maintained, and significantly historic.

  • We stayed in both the old and new sections. Traveled with 6 people so we did get to experience several rooms. The historic section has wonderful ambiance with heavenly but small beds. Room size is a toss up as well as bath size but all have double head showers with great water pressure. The new section has larger rooms with bigger beds and more amenities but lacks the ambiance. Staff was courteous and very helpful. Hotel was clean. Expensive to eat there but there are tons of wonderful places to eat all around the city. Never had a bad meal in San Francisco!

  • My wife and I went to spend our anniversary in San Francisco and had a great time. The Westin St. Francis was in the best location possible for us on our first ever visit to Frisco, right in Union Square! The shopping was great and the hotel was within walking distance from many restaurants and local sites (trolly cars, Fishermans Wharf, Chinatown, Little Italy, and AT&T Park).Would definitely stay there again!!

  • I love the Westin, but this one is too expensive. Everything is overpriced including their rates. Elevators are very slow. Maid service was below average. Coffee pot was dirty, used glasses were not changed daily. Cant afford to eat here.

  • I booked this trip a few weeks before New Years Eve for my girlfriend and I. Everything went smoothly with the hotel, the check-in was seamless and quick. We stayed in the modern section. Everything was perfect in the room. The location of hotel was perfect, right in the heart of everything (Union Square). We had breakfast at Sears right on the other block (5 min). We would definitely go back and wouldnt stay anywhere else. The only complaint that we had was that the plumbing and AC was fairly loud, but didnt disturb us from being comfortable.

  • This hotel was more than I expected. From the service to the room, everything was wonderful! A really good price for the hotel and room. The room was very clean and everything about the hotel said elegance and class. The area it is in doesnt look convincing but once inside it was beautiful. Dont be afraid to call the operator for questions with everything from how much a taxi would cost to Fishermans Wharf to questions about booking a tour. Even though it is an old hotel everything was very clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and they had good water pressure in the shower. If you are flying there, the double decker bus tour was a very useful way of transportation, you can get on and off for 2 days for one price. Make sure to take citysightseeing bus. Sears fine food is just a couple stores up and really good! Overall a really nice hotel and worth the price I paid.

  • Rust and mold on the grout around the shower.Rotting food on the floor in the hall on the 15th floor.High priced valet parking damaged our car.Staff could not even tell us when the fitness center was open.Staff were not available at the desk to answer questions.Not friendly, not interested in providing service.Excellent location where you can see Union Square, Trolleys (only mobile National Monument), shops etc.!!!

  • I came here for business and was very pleasantly surprised at the service, staff and hotel itself. Here is my suggestion though...stay in the Tower. I originally had a room in the historical part...when i entered that room, i was very disapointed...it was very small and had a very musty, old, odor. However, when i called the front desk, they immediately changed my room, and upgraded me to the Tower. That Room was incredible! After that, absolutely no complaints. The concierge was incredibly helpful in suggesting where i should go and what to see in my limited time in SF. I would definately stay here again.

  • I booked this through American Express which used the travel website... the hotel is beautiful in a grand old style. Service was great. Location was central to everything in SF, good neighborhood, lots of night life and galleries around. Got a great deal from Amex when I purchased with roundtrip tickets for two... ended up being $1250 total for tickets and hotel. I got upgraded to a Grand View at no charge with my Platinum card. The only thing I did not like was, they hit you for everything... valet paking, although very efficient and nice, was pricey at 50 bucks a night. The breakfast was double the cost ($50)of what you could get at Maxs right around the corner (for $23). The in-room bar is electronically controlled, so do not take anything or move anything within the bar unless you plan to pay for it. Other than those quibbles, its a fine place.
