  • We stayed at this hotel for a family vacation. The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are small but clean and the beds are confortable. The buffet breakfast is overpriced, when you take into account that you can walk two blocks down and order a good breakfast and, by that I mean eggs, ham or bacon and potatoes for $9.99. Plenty of restaurants in the area. Overall, it was a nice vacation, and I would consider staying here again. If your watching your pocket, it is expensive though.

  • We stayed at this hotel for a family vacation. The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are small but clean and the beds are confortable. The buffet breakfast is overpriced, when you take into account that you can walk two blocks down and order a good breakfast and, by that I mean eggs, ham or bacon and potatoes for $9.99. Plenty of restaurants in the area. Overall, it was a nice vacation, and I would consider staying here again. If your watching your pocket, it is expensive though.

  • This is an old hotel, like so many Intercontinental properties. Small rooms and not particularly clean. Some missing amenities as a result, like a pool. The bar up top has fabulous views and trams are right at the door. Folks, be careful. Eveything is a la carte at this hotel. Never had I paid $50 for parking for my rental car before, net of taxes. That is outrageous! Internet is extra, even the water at the fitness center is extra. The rates are reasonable but what is add-on afterward is problematic. Adding it all up - not worth it.

  • My husband, 21-year-old daughter, and I stayed here for three nights. We loved the attentiveness and helpfulness of the concierge and the front desk. Room service we excellent, and the button for the red light to indicate we did not wish sevice was handy. Our request was respected. The exercise room is small but adequate, and there is no pool. Dancing at The Top of The Mark to live jazz music with my daughter was the highlight of the stay. Lunch at The Top of The Mark restaurant was also delicious. The breakfast buffet is over the top, but too expensive to do more than once.The beds, down comforters, and soft pillows are the best, and my husband and I are very picky about pillows.Location near the Mason/Hyde St. trolley is very fun and convenient. There are lots of interesting restaurants in the area, and the walk to Powell St. station is only 8 blocks. You can get either the Muni or Bart there.

  • I have stayed at many top hotels and would put the Mark Hopkins in my top two. Quiet, clean, lovely rooms. Staff was very helpful with inquiries and assistance when needed. We ordered room service once, the meal was prompt, delicious, and beautifully presented. I even took photos for my trip albumn! Would definately book again. The only deficit was that I had to cross the street to another hotel to find a coffee shop. People staying at this local should take advantage of the beautiful park one block away. I enjoyed morning coffee and paper while watching tai chi, dogs excercising, and children playing, what a joy!

  • I have stayed at many top hotels and would put the Mark Hopkins in my top two. Quiet, clean, lovely rooms. Staff was very helpful with inquiries and assistance when needed.   • We stayed in SF for one night and the room, though small, was clean, had a view and appropriately priced. The location was great with an easy walk to Union Square and other areas. We anticipated the service to be good, but was beyond our expectations with being helpful after having left some items in a cab that had dropped us at the hotel. When we return to SF definitely will choose Mark Hopkins for our stay.

  • One of the greatest San Francisco hotels, but remodeled like new. The Top of the Mark is the classic view of the city. California Street cable cars outside door. A block from the Powell Street cable cars. Convenient parking garage off California Street. Room and bathroom luxurious. Reasonable rates for the quality. Didnt take any meals in hotel -- too easy to take advantage of San Francisco restaurants. Friendly and helpful staff. Great time. Eager to return.

  • They couldnt get the pay TV to work so we could watch movie and there was little else on that was free. Everything was pricey and it isnt that good. Staff was polite but could not fix the problem. Not conveniently located. On a steep hill. Sirens and city noises.

  • What better place to stay when youre in the most wonderful city in the country? The Mark Hopkins is a very elegant hotel in a sea of new glitzy, cold hotels. You cant get service, views or environment than the Mark Hopkins. The rooms are roomy, updated and elegant. Over the last twenty years of traveling to SF, Ive stayed at most (if not all) of the upper-end hotels. I continue to go back to the M.H. The staff makes every effort to handle your requests for dinner reservations, a particular room or transportation. We now just book here and never wonder about the new hotels that come around.Word of Caution: The hotel is at the top of Nob Hill. If you chose to walk up and down, you will get your exercise. The cable car does come by the hotel so that is another option.

  • The hotel is wonderful. Great location with beautiful rooms...howeverif you book your room through online travel website it is likely they will place you in their worst room. I was placed on a smoking floor, along the street. I asked for a non smoking room and their reply was....""you booked with online travel website therefore we can place you where ever we want""!I travel to SF often for business and I have stayed at comparable hotels for 1/2 the price with better rooms.

  • As a smoker, I really appreciated the whole floor dedicated to smoking rooms that was not substandard. Quality furnishings, great view, great service, great location.The concierge services were fabulous. I had some unusual needs that were met promptly and with a smile. Room service was prompt and lacking no amenities. A table in the restaurant could not have better presentation.It was great to get a conference rate without getting a lousy room!

  • The location of the hotel, right on top of Nob Hill, affords amazing views from every side! It is easy walking distance, down a hill of course, to shopping, restaurants and plenty of sights. If you dont want to walk, the California and Powell St cable cars are essentially right outside your door. The hotel staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, while the rooms are a bit small but clean. We ended up getting a room with an uncomfortable bed the first night, but the hotel was happy to switch rooms for us and we ended up with a terrific room and bed. Top of the Mark is a beautiful place to have a drink, although it is pricey - you are paying for the view! All in all, a very nice hotel that wed stay in again.

  • The location of the hotel, right on top of Nob Hill, affords amazing views from every side! It is easy walking distance, down a hill of course, to shopping, restaurants and plenty of sights. If you dont want to walk, the California and Powell St cable cars are essentially right outside your door. The hotel staff is incredibly friendly and attentive, while the rooms are a bit small but clean. We ended up getting a room with an uncomfortable bed the first night, but the hotel was happy to switch rooms for us and we ended up with a terrific room and bed. Top of the Mark is a beautiful place to have a drink, although it is pricey - you are paying for the view! All in all, a very nice hotel that wed stay in again.

  • Great trip with my 2 sisters and brother to take my mom to San Francisco for her birthday. Everyone from the doorman, who was great, to the staff at the top of the mark, was great. Nice views nice rooms.
