  • At first glance this hotel is quite nice. each room has its own entrance from outside, and is very colorfull. The landscaping is amazing aswell. Once yor are in the room that is a different story.... The furniture is quite old, but i can work with that. One night I was wraping myself up in the covers. when i woke up the covers had come off of the mattress. The mattress was disgusting!!! it was once white but is now multiple shades of choclate brown!!! it looked as if mud (i hope) had been smeared all over it. needless to say, i was afraid to sleep on that bed for the rest or my stay. I bought 2 beech towels, slept ontop of one and covered myself with the other. So, if you dont mind filth...have fun.

  • Great room for the money. Just bring your own towels if you stay here. Also there are no irons in the rooms and the ones they loan you are not that good. Otherwise check out the resturants in walking distance up and down the road. The food is very good and less expensive than in the hotel. Better value than the all inclusive meals.

  • It was our first trip to Jamaica and we fell in love with it. The hotel is nice and has a very quite atmosphere which doesnt work for all but was perfect for us. Loved the cliffs too, fun jumping off of them. For those wishing to play in the sand the Hotel has a sister Hotel on the beach with daily free shuttles both ways.

  • went to check this hotel out, have traveled to ja frequently, mostly stay in mo bay. the bed was too small for 2 people to sleep or do anything else in comfortably. the food was horrible. I couldnt find any decent jerk chicken, not even on the street. took this trip to basically check it out before recommending it to others, would not dare recommend this hotel. the only saving grace was the shuttle that went to the sister property where you could go to the beach. hated the cats, rats, bugs. • The Samsara is a colorful, eclectic, slightly funky and truly Jamaican place to stay. We adored it! If you like the feel of being in another culture while staying in a gleaming glass and marble ""Disneyfied"" hotel - dont go here! There is a reason it is frequented by many German and British tourists - - -they know how to truly experience a foriegn culture and the Samsara does this well. Our ""cottage"" was like a beach house - basic but clean. Great ocean view, balcony, small covered porch, lots of space, comfortable air temps, colorful paint and cutains -I felt like I was living more like a Jamaican than a tourist. The place is so very quiet, even with an open-air bar that is open late...the Bob Marley music spills out into the night but is distant and lulls us older, non-partiers to sleep. The cliffs are absolutely, incredibly beautiful....much more so than the beach. We had two 13 yearold girls with us and they loved it. It was not full of ""spring breakers"" even on spring break- no drunks or potheads and a security guard onsite. The staff was wonderful....they will gently help American guests calm down and move slowly....the whole point to being here...the food was healthy, reflected the local products and us vegetarians ate well....we did NOT buy the food package and I do not recommend it unless you have a huge appetite and plan on revisiting the meal buffets many times for all three meals. Take advantage of the snorkling on-site (or the diving school!) the sunsets!! and the proximity to Negril shops and restaurants. A sparking gem of a hotel.

  • I went to Jamaica with my husband and three young children. This was the first time I had ever been out of the states, so I was a bit weary. Samsara is a great place! It wasnt crowded and the view of the ocean was to die for! The cliffs were magnificent! Me and my children had a blast snorkling and finding shells. We took the shuttle to their sister hotel, Legends, and played on the sandy beach. I thought the ""business"" people on the beach were amusing, A fat lady with fruit on her head was fun to watch! I bought 2 lobsters, they were very good! Be sure to buy patties from the ""patty man"" he rides around on his bicycle and sells the most tasty little patties! We didnt do the all inclusive thing, we found a grocery store about a mile away and walked down there a few times and bought our own food. It was fun! The people on the street selling things were great! I bought a few wooden statues from Elvis, just outside of the Samsara hotel, and some bead Jewlery from Dennis. Both are great guys! Two employees at Samsara showed me how to get a coconut from the tree and then how to open it and drink the milk inside, it was great! I went to Jamaica to run the Reggae Marathon, the staff was great with helping me find out the specifics of the race and getting me a taxi ride super early in the morning to the race starting line. I loved Samsara, so did my children, we cant wait to go back!!!

  • Myself and 20 of my friends went to samsara for 8 days and it was the most chill, relaxing place ive ever been. All the reviewers that rip on samsara are americanized dumba**s. The country is full of poverty and samsara is a diamond in the rough. The whole staff was delightful especially johnny the security guard he made our trip. My group has only been back a couple days and we are already thinking about going back next year, going to the samsara. if you dont like that kind of culture than go someplace else. I can say that i would go there at least once a year for the rest of my life, it has amazing sights and adventures that are life-inspiring whether it be the sunsets on the cliffs (that you can jump off of), the crystal blue underwater scenery that is full of life, or laying back smoking a splif sipping a gin sling. Absolutely unforgettable im trying to get back in december.

  • The first issue was with the front desk staff. They were rude and constantly talked about the guests in heavy Jamaican accents. They were unaware, of the fact that many of us live in areas with large Jamaican populations. They appeared to be very bothered when asked for assistance, as if we were taking them away from conversations mostly about Yankees and that extra towels were not allowed. Not to mention asking for change, with an extremely high exchange rate, which was sometimes given....They would rather send you out with $1000 JA to catch a cab down the street (not very safe, especially at night). Johnny, the security guard kept the resort very safe, no one outside of guests were allowed on the property. The rooms were cleaned everyday, very friendly service and never intrusive on privacy.... very happy to send tip money her way. Lastly, the food, part of the all-inclusive package was desirable about 5 days out of the trip. Next time I will eat the the Royal Kitchen or somewhere else in town.

  • Before I booked my trip, I went to many different sites and read reviews. This year, I was looking for something that would get the most for our money. I am a bargain shopper and I took a risk and it was the BEST vacation my husband and I have been on! This was our second trip to Jamaica and our first stay in Negril. Our first stay was in Montego Bay (Sandals resort). We absolutely loved the view and atmosphere of Samsara. It is a quiet, more personable place to stay. We stayed one night in the garden huts and the rest in the pillar house on the cliff/ocean side. It was amazing to wake up to the crashing of the waves. We cliff jumped and lounged by the pool. We visited the sister resort (Legends) where you can hang on the beach, but we preferred the setting of Samsara to Legends b/c you dont get bugged by the businesses on the beach (jet skies, etc). Jamaica is a laid back place, so service is not speedy, but very friendly and accomodating. I dont recommend the all-inclusive unless you are a drinker and you dont care much for variety. The food was good, but not a lot to choose from. There are little restaurants near by for you to try. The staff and other people who stayed there were so nice and a joy to hang out with during down time. For activities, there is not much on site, but you can be linked up w/ different excursions! We did the zipline and river tubing tour-it was great! We are already planning our next trip to Samsara...hopefully within the year! Reviews are nice, but sometimes you have to experience things for yourself. We did and dont regret it!!

  • Samsara is not a luxury hotel, but it is really nice and relaxing, and you cant beat the price. The view is gorgeous, the staff is friendly, and the rooms are comfortable. The food is edible, but the drinks were very nice (especially the pineapple banana daquiris and rum punch). Id recommend it. :)

  • Our 5 days at Samsara were a very ?Jamaican? experience as opposed to the big resorts and chains, in a beautiful, peaceful, setting. Don?t go to this hotel if you?re looking for an American-style vacation or a luxury all-inclusive holiday. It?s a quiet, cliff-side hotel in a breath-taking setting. The location was convenient and allowed us to walk to local attractions, stores and restaurants. The daily free shuttle to the sister hotel on the beach was always on time and a good ?plus?.We stayed in the ?superior? room with AC and ocean view. The AC worked well, but we couldn?t see the ocean from our balcony. The room was clean and simple. We chose the all-inclusive plan and have mixed feelings about it. The food was satisfactory, but definitely not gourmet. There was a continental flare to most meals, besides a few decent Jamaican-themed dinners. The plan includes three meals at set times, no snacks, and cocktails that weren?t that great. We were disappointed that there was no live music, as promised, on the Jamaican-themed nights. Samsara Hotel has way more to offer than the food and drink of the all-inclusive plan: jumping from the cliffs, and watching the sunsets were equally or more important for us. The customer service was to be expected in an inexpensive hotel. It was fine ? you get what you pay for. The information provided at the front desk wasnt always helpful or reliable, but the staff was agreeable in general. We would recommend taking a taxi from the airport ? we booked the Jamaica Tour shuttle and had to wait at the airport for other passengers, and were picked up VERY early at our hotel on the day of our departure. The taxis are slightly more expensive but less touristy and quicker.

  • The bed was SO TINY !!! Dozens of stray cats and kittens on the property. Pool filthy with human hair and bugs. The whole exterior of hotel needs paint. Basketball hoop is a pathetic-looking disaster. Property looks like a war zone. Staff rude and totally uninterested in guest happiness from the beginning. Owner has let the place go. The place is NOT well-maintained.

  • The hotel is most certainly located in a great location. As a single woman I never felt any danger walking the streets either by day or night. Very secluded and relaxing place. A few days into my stay I started to develope in certain areas red itchy bites. Few days later after returning to states I went to urgent care due to the bites spreading. The diagnose was exposure to bed bugs. In Jamaica the locals call them """"little giants

  • The flight connection was much to long.Next time I only would book a non stop flight to the destination for that short period of time. The hotel was simple but had a certain atmosphere. Jamaika is an intersting island which has lots to offer.

  • we, me and my two teenage sons, were postively surprised when checking in. Some of the reviews re this hotel is very negative and we could not understand that. This place is really beautiful and looks like the pix, we had a large ocean front room with ac and very large balcony. Maybe the garden rooms in the back are not so nice, We had an all inclusive and thought the food was excellent for the price, jerk chicken, fish, rice&peas etc. Samsara is a quiet place and very relaxing with the comfortable sun beds etc. If you want action stay at the Legends on the beach. We went to legends after breakfast to enjoy the beach. Ricks cafe is close to Samsara and cost around USD5 for a cabride there.I think that the complains written about this resort must be written with very inexperienced travellers that expect everything to be like home. If you would like to stay in a luxury hotel of that kind that looks the same in every country you visit - dont stay here. There are hotels like Riu, Hedonism etc located far from the authentic Negril.

  • Forget the all-inclusive, the food was bland and americanized. Use the spot to go meet locals and explore. Centrally located to fun low key spots. Cliffs were a blast. Its the island life, you cant expect no bugs, no sand, etc...Diving was AWESOME!..locals took us out and it was a private dive, not overcrowded.

  • I enjoyed a pleasant stay at the Samsara Hotel despite my initial reservations dued to its mixed reviews. My only critique is the lack of a good lock on my door as well as the lack of authentic Jamaican food such as ackee and saltfish, but overall, I would stay there again. The staff was great such as Craig, the security guard and Leroy, the maintance guy and the ladies at the front desk.

  • Be careful with this hotel it has two parts, rooms facing the sea, and rooms on the other side of the road behind the parking lot, called with a garden view. These rooms are full of mosquitos, and extremely hot. For anything your need you have to go and cross the road, where cars and motorbikes pass really quickly. During the day they burn grass and trash next to your room so the smoke becomes sofocating and your belongings absorb all the smell. So be clear before you book that you are on the ""ocean"" view. Also although is ""all"" inclusive, it turns out that bottled bear, gin, wine and some other stuff is not included. However people on the ocean view seem to be quite happy.

  • My husband and I just spent the most amazing 7 days at Samsara. We have always stayed on the beach but this is our first time on the cliffs. We LOVE the Cliffs. So relaxing. I had a 1hr. massage, absolutely wonderful. Shuttle to Legends great. Food, we did not do the all inclusive because of all the different places so close by. We stayed in a pillar house, the most private and inviting. We will definitely visit again. We are planning our next trip for Dec. 08 as we speak.Traci and Rodney YoungLexington, NC

  • I had a very nice time at the Samsara. I think it is a great value for the money. Compare the cost of other hotels. The towels are pretty worn out so next time I will bring my own. Same for the irons. So I will make sure I bring clothing that does not need to be ironed. I did not take the all inclusive and had a great time eatting at the various resturants up and down the road out side of the hotel. The local are very friendly and I found my way around just fine and felt very safe and respected everywhere I went. There is a grocery store near buy where you can buy ice and drinks to keep your trip on budget. I am already checking my calendar to see when I can come back and Samsara has the best rates hands down. The pool was fine, no rats or ants and only one lizard ran under my door a few times. The musquitoes bite me at home too so Oh well.
