  • it was our first time in hawaii and we were pleasantly suprised by the room. we had a kitchenette which was useful. rooms were clean, front desk was helpful with directions and suggestions. there was a bit of a smell, but it came from the fish resturaunt downstairs. the continental breakfast could have been better, but thats minor. wireless was fast and there was some noise from outside, but what can u expect when ur in a busy city.it didnt keep me from having a good time, anything we needed was braught a.s.a.p. even when housekeeping was closed. overall u get ur bang for ur buck.

  • We booked this hotel for our trip to Hawaii through an online travel website. This website had so many bed options, that I called ahead and asked for a room with one king or queen bed and to be smoking, which we were told would be reserved for us. When we arrived we had two double beds and was non smoking. When I called down to the front desk after checking in, they pretty much told us that there was no record of me ever calling, and they actually made me fell stupid by saying ""Are you sure you called here and not to the online travel website?"" Which I know I did because I could barely understand the accent of the woman who answered the phone. So we ended up with a room where my husband and I could barely share a bed (comfortably anyway), and it was supposed to be a first anniversary trip. Then when I went to use the shower that night (for the first time), there were areas of the inside of the shower curtain with a crusty bloody substance on them. I had no choice but to shower because we didnt have time to wait to be cleaned as we had to be somewhere. I notified the front desk on the way out and they said they would have it cleaned good when housekeeping came in the morning. The next day after housekeeping was there, guess what was still on the curtain!! A few days later, we found ants all over the room. Most of the staff did try to be nice throughout the stay, and the hospitality suite they offer for late flights after check out (as well as storing our luggage for us) was nice. But those were not enough to make us ever want to stay again!

  • The Waikiki Gateway is an excellent hotel and an excellent value. The rooms are very comfortable and clean. The pool is beautiful and has a wonderful view of Waikiki Beach. A hospitality room is available for those with a late departing flight. This room is very comfortable and convenient. The hotel is close to restaurants and shopping and is a short, yet beautiful walk across a lovely park to the beach. The ABC store in the lobby is a real step saver for any traveler needing to buy neccessary or forgotten items. The service from the staff is exceptional. This was my second stay at the Waikiki Gateway and I will always stay at this hotel when I travel to Hawaii.

  • First I have to say that the location was great! It was right there downtown and very, very close to the beach! There were some issues with the staff. Some were great and some were rude. I was able to go downtown whenever I wanted to, it was just across the street, I walked to the beach and to dinner. There is a great resturant downstairs Nicks Seafood Market, we had the best fish ever! The room is very basic with a refrigerator but no microwave. If it had a microwave it would be perfect. The A/C unit was loud, but for the price it was worth it. I would stay there again becuase of the price per night and the locatiion was again GREAT! There is a laundry room and I was able to wash my clothes there three times, I came home with no dirty clothes! The last night there were some people in the hallway that were loud but that was the only time. We did hear the cars outside. That was not as bad as hearing the two very loud girls outside our room at 4 am the last night. I was able to check out the night before and that was great! That was very helpful since I had to be at the airport very early. Parking was $15.70 a day and the was the cheapest we could find. I would stay there again (planning another trip next summer) because of the price and location. I know what to expect and a simple room with a bathroom is ok with me since I will be in Hawaii again! Clean towels and internet, It is so close to everything! And there is next to a bus stop. GREAT Location!

  • Picked this hotel because of reviews and internet price. The staff at this hotel was wonderful. The hotel rooms not so wonderful. Booked a kitchenette room. The smell in the room was awful and the air conditioner did not work. They moved us to the 8th floor without a kitchen but brought us up a microwave. This wasnt what we had planned since we were going to eat alot of meals in. The room and outside halls smelled so bad that we bought air freshner at the ABC store. Still smelled. The halls smelled like a nursing home. Not the smell I want when on vacation. They upgraded us to the 16th floor at no charge. A penthouse room.It didnt smell as bad. While the room had a beautiful view of downtown, the ocean and a huge lanai it is not what I would consider a ""Penthouse Room"". Upgraded motel 6 at best. My daughter and I travel alot and we are not overly picky. The beds are hard and blankets rough.The final straw came when I started getting bites on my arms and legs and found a huge cockroach in the bathroom. We checked out the next day. Also, the beach is a long 3 block walk. My advise, stay somewhere else.

The breakfast was disappointing up on the 16th floor on a very tiny balcony, but hey what do you expect for free? The business centre had 5 computers with free internet. The hotel is old, as is just about every hotel in Waikiki, reception has been furnished, but the rooms were clean. Everything is within walking distance. As a single traveller I had no need for a car, and the way everyone complains about parking fees I am surprised people bother hiring a car, you can easily get around on foot or catch a bus or trolley.

  • I dont normally write reviews but the customer service I received from this staff was beyond awesome. As a traveler you know how hard it is to find a place that will make you feel like home. The second my wife and I stepped in the door we felt like family. Id say what makes up the most of any Great Hotel is the staff. This place definitely has 5 star service. We were fortunate enough to stay on the 17th floor penthouse. The value was great. You have to remember all you need in hawaii is truly a roof and a bed. If your there for the amenities in the hotel room, go somewhere else. Id call the front desk to get a good deal. I cant say much for the other rooms but we stayed in two different types of penthouses while we were there. The corner penthouse was by far the best. the wall in the room are all glass and have a gorgeous view of the beach. The hotel is located just minutes from the main strip. and seconds from the beach. Its location is very ideal and the prices are awesome. Id definitely find myself returning here. To be honest in my review you have to know the person that travels. Im easy to please, I dont demand much. when I travel Im their to sleep and adventure all day. Customer Service is very important to me and that I dont slack on.. This staff deserves a pat on the back. they give 5 STAR service. Especially the management Thanks for making our anniversary a memorable one. My cons to this place would be to update the carpets.. to make it a little more modern, but I am no interior decorator.

  • We are typical travelers... we stay at decent hotels that offer a good rate. We are not picky people. This hotel is terrible!!! It is very dated (usually not a big deal), but it smelled its age. Our room was so musty smelling and dirty. When I asked the front desk for a new room, she told us they were full and she would contact me later to let me know if anyone cancelled/no-showed. She also said she would talk to the manager about the problem. She said that in the meantime, they could ""spray"" our room. We told her that we didnt want anyone ""spraying"" the room with anything. When we returned from town, our room reeked with what seemed like some industrial strength air freshner. It was so strong we had to open the windows and leave the room. When we returned, of course, the musty smell remained. The front desk or a manager never called us to update us if we could change rooms. Since we had a full next day and werent planning on being in the room much, we decided just to tough it out for our last day. Also, we had the ""Do not Disturb"" sign on our door while we were getting ready the next morning, so the cleaning people wouldnt knock yet. Instead, they called our room to see if they could come clean!!! What is the point of the Do not Disturb sign if they are just going to disturb you in another way other than knocking? Crazy. All around, it was terrible. Pay a little more to stay somewhere else, or find another deal, because this hotel is not one!

  • This hotel made my stay a pleasurable experience. 5 min walk to the beach. Located right on the Blvd. Convenient ABC Store (mini market) downstairs that even provided food! ATM machine in the lobby which made it very convenient for me. Shuttle service available to the airport, mall and other places. Only thing housekeeping didn?t do was change the sheets. They just re-make the bed for you. Didn?t care too much for the pool, very small and not much to it. Still NOT bad at all for the price paid. Loved the balcony view!! Will definitely come stay here again!

  • The lobby is cool and the location is great, but thats about it.....even at $69 per night, we felt ripped off. We stayed here one night and left the next morning. The rooms are dark and damp, and very old. There has been some remodeling, but it appears to be purely cosmetic. The beds are honestly by far the worst I have ever experienced. Even my 6 and 8 year old kids said they could not sleep, and they can sleep anwhere. The ""complimentary breakfast"" consists of canned pineapple, some type of orange colored beverage, individually wrapped muffins from a vending machine, terrible coffee, and an employee who seems to hate her job. Overall, you are much, much better off paying a little more and finding another hotel. We stayed at the Doubletree for a little more and loved it.

  • The lobby is cool and the location is great, but thats about it.....even at $69 per night, we felt ripped off. We stayed here one night and left the next morning. The rooms are dark and damp, and very old. There has been some remodeling, but it appears to be purely cosmetic. The beds are honestly by far the worst I have ever experienced. Even my 6 and 8 year old kids said they could not sleep, and they can sleep anwhere. The ""complimentary breakfast"" consists of canned pineapple, some type of orange colored beverage, individually wrapped muffins from a vending machine, terrible coffee, and an employee who seems to hate her job. Overall, you are much, much better off paying a little more and finding another hotel. We stayed at the Doubletree for a little more and loved it.

  • We have just had 15 wonderful days at the Gateway. Our room had new mattresses and pillows, the bathroom was roomy and spotless. The staff at all levels went out of their way to be helpful. There is a free hospitality room for late checkouts or early arrivals.as well as a computer room with 6 computers and free internet access. No complaints only praise, especially for the price

  • Our stay was great the staff were wonderful. Walking distance to the beach and other shopping area. Even our five year old had a great time the room was fab. We even got upgrade when we arrive that was a great idea. I am even thinking our spending my birthday weekend in June there.

  • I arrived at the hotel, where I was hardly greeted. The breakfast was small and limited drinks were offered. My sheets had a big black stain on them. Towels are offered only a few at a time, which is stupid considering there is a pool and a beach nearby. The worst part was that they charged me almost $1.00 for every local call I made. Who charges for local calls??? This hotel was not a good deal for the price I paid. Lesson learned.

  • This hotel had a nicely appointed lobby with friendly informative staff. We stayed on the 8th floor, had a great corner room with views of Luxury Row and a distant view of the ocean. TV Armoire doors were a bit askew, but they would close. We had 2 queen size beds. Although comfortable the matteresses had a very ridge edge. The window A/C would either be very cold or just cool enough. The weather during our stay was cool in the evenings so we were comfortable. Thought about leaving the sliding door open on the balcony but the adjoining room also had a balcony you could probably climb over. All in all, we were very pleased with our room. We enjoyed the continental breakfast which consisted of wheat toast, mini bagels or Taro bread. There was an orange drink, tea or coffee. Pineapple chunks and yogurt. It was enough to get you started for the day. The breakfast was served on a large open balcony which overlooked a park and out into the city. A great way to start the day. The lady who worked the breakfast the first day was entertaining and efficient. A different lady worked the next day, and she was very nice, but quieter. The parking was $17.75 per day. You could come and go as needed. The valets were very obliging. An ABC store was conveniently located at the side door. Did not use the pool. Used the business center once, 4 computers were always in demand. Hotel was within walking distance to beach,restaurants, trolleys and buses stopped in front, just bring comfy shoes. We would stay here again. Hope this helps. Have a great trip!

  • This was our first trip to Hawaii and wasnt sure what to expect. We enjoyed our stay and the hotel was nice, the conceirge is wonderful and the front desk was very helpful. The complimentary room is nice as our flight didnt leave till late nite. Transportation is excellent we used public trans. close to the ocean nice 3 blk. walk and close to shops and eating facilities.
