  • the rooms in this hotel are outdated....hotel charges for parking (even if you are a hotel guest).....there is a charge for wi-fi, a charge for using their business center computer, no continental breakfast....basically a charge for ANYTHING additional.....i would have rather paid more and stayed at a better hotel....one good thing is that the pool was nice

  • First off, it states in the online travel website that this hotel is only 2 miles from the San Diego airport and actually its 8 miles. It was a very expensive cab ride. Then we had to wait for someone to be summond to check us in. After we checked in, we were shown the way to the staircase for us to carry our heavy bags up to our room (husband has shoulder problems, which made this very painful to do). They should let you know that they do not have an elevator, and they should offer you assistance in case you need it. The room smelled, had only a 19"" tv and a really bad channel selection..This is not by any way a 3.5 star hotel. Positive note: The bed was comfortable.

  • This hotel is excellent - beautiful and clean. I was here on a business trip and admit I didnt spend a lot of time here, but wish I could have. Desk staff very courteous and helpful. Restaurant right in the hotel eliminates the need to drive around, and served great food.   • There is a parking gate into the lot for the several buildings that make up the hotel. At check in, I was given a validated parking pass - only it had expired in October and my stay was from 11/5-11/11.Parking lot attendant gave me a new pass which I had to take to the front desk to have validated. (learned later in the week that they charge guests $12 a day to park - nothing in any literature or signed form at check in indicated this - hotel ended up waiving the $84 charge, but still seems to me a bit outrageous to charge people to park in the lot when theyre already paying to stay there).Got to room which wasnt ready - waited about 5-10 minutes for housekeeping to finish their tasks. They very kindly brought me a chair to sit on in the hallway.Went out shopping and sightseeing Sunday 11/9 (remember staying til 11/11), but when I returned, key card would no longer work. Had to trek back to the front desk to get key card rekeyed - was told resets over the weekend?Food in the restaurant was good if a bit overpriced - only ate lunch there on day of arrival.Book in room which usually describes hotel services only contained menu for restaurant, TV did indicate pool open 9-9 and was provided a map of the hotel to show which building my room was in. No advertisement of spa services, where ice machine was located or other things Im used to finding readily available.

  • Very nice hotel in a very convenient location for my purposes. The front desk personnel were very helpful and always willing to answer questions that I had. I arrived early so I had to wait for a room to be cleaned and readied for use. My room overlooked the large pool area with an upper unit so the view was nice. As for issues at the hotel, the pool noise in the evening was a bit much and the music being played outside by the pool was a bit loud (could hear over the TV). As for the restaurant and bar, the restaurant hours were not what was advertised and the prices were a bit steep. I ended up eating at a family restaurant across the freeway that had more choices on the menu and better prices. The bar was nice but the price for a bottle of beer was a bit to high (5 dollars) but the staff was very attentive and professional. The only real major issue that I had problems with was the on-site parking. Not only were hotel guests parking in the lot, but the lot was open to the public for parking for a fee. My parking was included in the price of the hotel stay but using the parking system was a real pain. When you arrived and parked in the lot, you obtained a ticket that you took to the front desk to be validated. When I tried to get back in using the validated ticket, the system did not recognize the ticket so I had to get another one and have it validated at the front desk. This was the procedure my entire stay. This parking system needs changing or repaired to working order.

So true because every other reveiw written had the same complaint!! I also did not feel the safety of the hotel was good. There was no door that led to the rooms and stairway outside. Anyone could have access to our rooms at any time!! The door had been removed from the hinges and not replaced.

  • The Handlery truly has a fantastic restaurant. I ordered the vegetable lasagna which was enough to feed a small family (nice wine list). The hotel was easy to locate right off I-8hwy and close to the Mall, trolley, and Balboa Park (a must for anyone who loves museums). The front desk staff could have been nicer, but check-in/out was fairly a breeze. The room itself,well, the room was clean and comfortable,the bathroom was clean with lots of towels,but the toilet is too close to the bathroom door. If you want to see the city and not drive catch the trolley,parking is next to the mall. However, the it was easy to get around so if you dont mind driving, just leave early. I visited on the weekend and there was little traffic in the early a.m.

  • We stayed for 2 nights, Dec 26 & 27, 2008. Our stay was very good. This is a very nice hotel - clean, safe and accomodating. Free parking was kind of strange but we did not have any problems with it when checking out. Our heater did not work in room the first night, put out cold air and we were freezing, had to sleep in sweats, blankets and comforter covering us. Next morning called front desk and they were right there to fix, we were toasty within the hour with no more problems after that. It was our fault for not calling the front desk to make them aware of it sooner, we were informed by front desk receptionist and the engineer who came to our room to fix heater that there services are 24 / 7 to please not hesitate to call them. Good to know. We will stay here again.

  • We have nothing but good things to say about the Handlery Hotel. The service was amazing, it was very clean, everyone was friendly and helpful! It is also in a good location not father than a couple minutes from the beaches, sea world, old town, and many shopping malls. We will definetly stay there again!

  • We stayed at the hotel for two nights but had a great time. The kids enjoyed the large pool and the wife enjoyed the cocktails that the pool bar served. The front desk was very friendly and even let us check in early. We also used their free shuttle to the zoo which was great. My daughter has allergies and is usually very sensitive to dust, and we were glad to see that our room was spotless. My only complaint is that I wish they would have more food options. There is only one restaurant and the room service comes from that restaurant.

  • My recent stay at San Diegos Handlery Hotel/resort was one the worst hotel experinces i have ever had! First of all, the property does not look anything like its pictures or description on the website! They lead you to believe this hotel to be like a spa/resort type of stay with tropical settings....it is nothing like that! It is an older property which has been kept relatively clean, but lots of renovations still need to be done to it The rooms are older and bathrooms small but at least they keep them clean. some renovations have been done to them but not enough. the only satifactory thing about my stay was the maid service.I guess it is an OK stay for families with lots of kids and conventions but if youre a solo businessman seeking peace & quiet after a long days work DO NOT STAY HERE. Extremely NOISY! Walls are paper thin, they put me next to a room of some rowdy party crowd who kept all the other guests up till 3 am in the morning. i t took so many calls to the front desk and finally it took hotel security & Police to shut them up....13 people crammed in the room next to mine partying all night....There is no elevators, no bellman on duty at night if you check in so good luck hauling your heavy luggage upstairs to your room.

  • This hotel is very nice and in a good location. Rooms are very clean staff is helpful. They do have a shuttle service but you have to ask about it. They do not provide you with this information. The resturant in the hotel is a little expensive and the food is not that good. Overall my stay there was nice. I would stay there again.

  • This hotel is very nice and in a good location. Rooms are very clean staff is helpful. They do have a shuttle service but you have to ask about it. They do not provide you with this information. The resturant in the hotel is a little expensive and the food is not that good. Overall my stay there was nice. I would stay there again.

  • The only positive thing about this hotel was that the room was clean and didnt smell. Everything else was horrible! We paid for a King pool view room and upon check in was told that all the King rooms were booked and that my boyfriend and I would have to spend our Valentines weekend in a room with two ""full"" beds!! We were told there were NO available King rooms anywhere in the hotel and we would just have to make do with two full beds! When I asked to speak to a manager and informed the girl at the front desk that I would be calling online travel website she instantly changed her attitude and said that a King room had opened up in their fourth building clear in the back! The room was VERY small for the price and the heater didnt work! At check out they wanted to charge us $30 for parking even thought the paper we signed at check in stated the parking charge was included in the price we paid! WOULD NOT STAY AGAIN!!!!

  • They treated me very well. From the Check in to the Check out, I was given the utmost respect, courtesy, and help. The Breakfast buffet was good and the service was excellent. I really believe that it is their service that stands out most. Overall, would I return? I would give it an unqualified YES and plan to return. Im an average traveler who booked last minute for a mini-vacation, and discovered a decent place to stay in San Diego. Its not the Ritz Carlton. Its a great place for a reasonable price. The walls to the neighboring room must be quie thin because I could hear my neighbors talk, laugh, cough... you name it. My first night was very noisy. My room window was adjacent to the freeway and the parking lot, and it was very noisy during at night.The location of the hotel was okay. It was a good 10 minute walk to the public trolley system. No convenience or grocery store within walking distance. I believe I will choose another hotel the next time .

  • While staying at the Handlery Hotel in San Diego, from October 7th through the 12th. AFTER A DAY ON THE SAN DIEGO TROLLEY \SUDDENLY NONE OF OUR HOTEL ROOM KEYS WORKED. WHEN I WENT TO THE FRONT DESK TO ASK WHY, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS DUE TO A COMPUTER ERROR. IN MY OPINION THE HANDLERY HOTEL AND RESORT NEEDS TO GET NEW COMPUTERS. THE STAFF WAS VERY NICE IN TRYING TO HELP ME SORT THROUGH AND FIX ALL OF THE COMPUTER ERRORS THAT KEPT OCCURING DURING MY HOTEL STAY.

  • Wow! I don?t know where to start. The service was terrible the employees where rude but great at giving you a nice ?fake? smile. When we got there, my wife, newborn and I where told to leave and come back in 3 hours because the person staying in our room decided not to leave at checkout. At no time during this did they offer us another room. When finally we got our room we asked for the crib that they had offered. It took them over two hours to finally bring us a ratty metal crib that looked like it was in back of a pickup for a decade. Also, we where told that we would have to pay a $12.00 a day parking fee, which was not written anywhere on travel website or their own site. When we got home we noticed over $500.00 dollars charged to our account. I called and they told me that it would be reimbursed but they had to charge me a 100 dollar a day ?just in case I rented a movie? fee. I wonder what kind of movies they rent there.
