  • We stayed with our two kids and in-laws for five days. The rooms were clean, had a small kitchen and really comfortable beds. The hotel is a wonderful older hotel in the city. We were in walking distance from the White House and the metro was a 10 minute walk. The staff was incredible, friendly and more attentive than I have seen as most big name chains. We had a wonderful expereince. We will stay again.

  • The staff was awesome! Everyone was very friendly, helpful, and accomodating. The hotel isnt a big commercial hotel so there is more of an ""at home"" feeling when you are there. The room was nice and was a good size. The kitchen and bathroom in the room are pretty old fashioned but they do the job. Overall I was very pleased with this hotel and I would definitely stay again!

  • As far as location goes, this hotel cannot be beat in Washington D.C. The closest you can get to the Vietnam and Lincoln Memorials in the city. The neighborhood is a safe one to walk around in...after all of the rumors I heard about Washington D.C., I felt safe there. The only complaint I have is the parking situation. I am from California where we all have cars, so I rented a car once I got to Washington. I had to utilize the hotels "valet parking" to park the car because as you know there is no parking in Washington. The parking consists of charging you $30 dollars a night plus a $3 dollar tax to equal $33 dollars a night. On top of which it is only right to tip the doormen upon retrieving and dropping off your car. This got very expensive during the 5 nights I had my car parked. I also noticed that they park there "valet cars" in a public parking garage around the corner from the hotel that only charges a $17 dollars a day flat rate. Sound kinda fishy to me. To top it all off someone in the garage dented the passenger side door and scraped the paint. And as many of you know on a rental car, much less your own car, its a real hassel to deal with. I would suggest taking the Metro and forget the rental car if you stay here.

  • I really think this hotel deserves another star or two. While not in the luxury category, its in many, many ways nicer than the typical 3 or three and a half star hotel. The rooms are big, well-lighted, comfortably furnished and have absolutely sumptuous linens. The location, just a couple of blocks from the Natl Mall and on the edge of the GWU campus, is very convenient to all the touristy stuff and the student ambiance and energy are fun. The metro is close, most everything is a short cab ride away, but if you dont want to venture far to eat, theres the kitchen in the room, but also lots of inexpensive places around the campus. Its very quiet at night. The Plazas highest rating goes to the friendly and helpful staff. One desk clerk overheard a conversation my husband and I were having about some restaurants and before another hour passed, hed sent up a packet of Internet research about those places and some others like them. The only negative was the associated restaurant which offered a freebie style breakfast for way, way too much money. Fruit, yogurt and not even a beverage for $10 plus an 18% gratuity didnt impress me. Everything else about the State Plaza did impress me though, and I cant recommend it highly enough.

  • Six of us got together for the Memorial Day weekend, renting three rooms. Location is good, near Dupont, National Mall, Adams Morgan, monuments etc. Staff was a little clueless. Parking was a bit of a hassle - its safe, just a bit of a hassle because they didnt have enough parking. Oh and theres an extra $30 a night charge for that. Room was spotty - bed was great. Overall, rooms and hotel was outdated but clean.

  • This hotel was a nice surprise. Very clean and extremely friendly and helpful staff. Kitchen was fully equipped with full size fridge and freezer, gas stove, microwave, plates and utensils. Microwave broke the 2nd day. We reported the problem on the way out in the morning and had a new one when we returned that evening. Big dressing area and kitchen area in addition to bedroom. 5 blocks from the metro, 4 blocks from the memorials and tour bus stops. Felt very safe inside the Georgetown University area. Lots of big fluffy pillows on the beds. Highly recommend the State Plaza Hotel.

  • The location was an easy walk to the metro station. About a 25 minute walk from the Washington Monument. The hotel is situated at the south end of George Washington University campus. The hotel was quiet and very clean. This is an older hotel so there were a few quirks. Beyond 6:15 a.m. the shower was not hot. The room telephone was quirky. The staff was very courteous and helpful at all times. Would I stay again? Yes! The ease of walking to our desired locations made this hotel very convenient.

  • The hotel definitely met our expectations. We were only blocks from a Metro station which made it very nice to travel within the city. The room was adequate for 2 adults and a 13 year old boy. It was nice to have a separate kitchen for bringing back treats and snacks for bed time. The dressing room allowed extra space for everyone while we prepared for the days adventures. The beds were very comfortable! The personnel at the hotel are very friendly and helpful, including the tip that if there are 3 of you, take a taxi to and from the Ronald Reagan airport, its cheaper than the Blue Shuttle! It is an older hotel, but a very pleasant stay.

  • The hotel was described as very close to the metro station but it was much farther than described. The first room we stayed in was very hot with the a/c on the whole day. The front desk was very helpful and moved us to another room. The wi fi didnt work in the second room. They moved us again and this time to a suite. The room was very spacious but the hotel is very old and run down. This hotel needs a remodel very badly.

  • I took my family on a weekend trip to DC for some sight seeing. I was very pleased with the hotel for the money. Parking can be a serious issue during the week, but there was an abundence of street parking on the weekend. The staff was very friendly. The hotel is a remodel apartment building, so the rooms are a little dated, but they were clean and comfortable. The staff was very friendly. We were easily within walking distance of several items on our sight seeing list. Over a great experience for the money.

  • The room was great. Four adults stayed in the room and we had plenty of room to move about. The kitchen is an added plus with the CVS right next door we never went out for breakfast (we could purchase milk, cereal and other snacks pretty reasonably there)- grabbed a bite in the hotel and off we were to see the sights. It was a bit noisy every morning from a garbage pick-up but that was not the fault of the hotel. It was also a bit warm in the room but we cracked a window and that helped. The thermostat didnt seem to really work - we turned it way down and it never affected the warm temperatures. The staff was pretty helpful but seemed a bit more interested in visiting with one another at times. All in all it was a good experience and I would definately stay there again. The proximity to the National Mall was a plus (about 4 blocks) and we walked to the Mall almost every day. You are closet to The Wall and very close to The Lincoln Memorial and the Korean War Memorial. The Metro is about 1/2 mile a way but the walk takes you through George Washington University and very safe. The hotel was very clean and we used the two computers in the business center daily. There was only one time there was not a computer available. I just waited 5 minutes and returned. The fitness facility was a ways away (my daughter used it) but functional from what she said. I would easily recommend this hotel to anyone.

  • Very clean hotel, Staff was very helpful. Kitchenette had new plates and pots and pans. Huge money saver for a family. My valet parked car was washed for me without asking. Room was always very clean. Hotel is about four blocks from the Memorials and about four blocks from the metro station. Free internet in room and two office center computers available for free use. Great if you need to print a boarding pass. Fitness room is small, cardio equipment all worked fine but universal machine needed attention with a can of WD-40.Only problem was that room was too warm and thermostat did little to change the temperature. We opened the window and that solved the problem, other than that our stay was excellent. For the money highly recommended. not luxury, but very nice.

  • Our stay was fine. The room was very clean, the staff was helpful and friendly, good location. Close to the monuments maybe not so close to museums or capital. The only thing was in the pictures it shows a seperate sitting room (living room) we didnt have that. It would have been nice with two children. Most important...we felt safe. Staff was always at the front desk and/or at the front door. Overall a nice place to stay and probally would again.

  • Rooms are very large, staff was acceptible, but the hotel requires a significant remodel. The decor is from the 1960s? Carpets, furniture, and such are very old. I wondered whether I should remove my shoes. My room smelled really bad, so I asked to move to another room. I was told the building was full, but with a little push, I did get another room. That room smelled the same, so I decided all rooms probably had the same odor. But at least the phone worked in the second room.If I had a family and wanted to cook in the kitchen---and if the room were $100---I might stay at the hotel again. As a business traveler, paying $190+tax, I will not return. There are other hotels in that price range that are leaps and bounds better.Security note: I couldnt check in early so I left my bags with the doorman. When I retrieved them later that night, I noticed that my combo lock had been adjusted. Later that night, a maid barged into my room without knocking (the deadbolt was locked, but there was no other security chain). Both events made me uncomfortable.

  • I was very pleased with State Plaza Hotel. It is conveniently located near the National Mall and the 80 bus stops very close by. The rooms were large with cooking facilities. We were missing some items from our kitchen, but after I requested them we had everything we needed. There is a CVS and liquor store right next door, and a Safeway very close by. We always felt safe when we were out day or night. All the staff were extremly pleasant and helpful. My only complaint was that the internet in our room sometimes did not work and only one of the computers in their business office worked. If I had been on a major business trip this could have been a problem. Go up to the GW neighborhood for lots of restaurants. Were going back.

  • We had a good time. With two small children the kitchen really helps. Walking distance to museums and the metro. Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The air con was not that strong the first night, but the rest of the stay was good.

  • You cant ask for a better location. Our family walked everywhere - no need for a rental car. Metro was great. Hotel staff was fantastic. We were upgraded to a larger room once they found out we had 5 in our family (2 of them teenagers). The rooms are a bit outdated, but they are clean and comfortable. Plus we didnt spend much time there anyway! Our room had a separate living/dining area with a sofa/sleeper. It had a kitchen with a full sized fridge, microwave, and gas stove that was very convenient for quick meals. The housekeeping staff washed the dishes every day. The bedroom was huge. It had two queen beds, but could have easily fit a third. There is a CVS next door where you can buy milk, bread, cereals, etc. A few blocks north is Washington Circle where you can find many restaurants and an ice cream shop. The hotel restaurant is pricey if youre on a budget, but the meals we had were excellent. We consider ourselves to be a ""Marriott"" family, but Id recommend this hotel anyone whos willing to trade the latest and greatest hotel furniture for something out of fashion, but cozy and very spacious.
