  • Ive stayed at boutique hotels before, most notably the Kimpton Group (Hotel Marlowe in Cambridge, MA and Hotel Madera in Washington, DC) so I expected a relatively small, eclectic nevertheless charming room. The ladies room in the lobby (which is a gorgeous glass-ceilinged atrium with ivy, old wood & plenty of seating) was as large as my hotel room. The money was definitley spent on the public areas. However, since I was paying for board, I would have expected more - especially for the price I paid, which, btw, was less than rack-rate because I went through one of the internext discounters. At minimum, I expected a BED, not a futon 6 inches off the floor. The bathroom was hysterically (because if you dont laugh, you cry) claustrophobic - I counted the tiles - the total area was 26"" x 51"", which included the glass-walled-overlooking-the-sleeping-area shower (ok - there was a gauze curtain for privacy). I prepaid for four nights, stayed only one night, & thus, gave the hotel the opportunity to double-sell my room. I would imagine the place would be perfect for a business traveler - if they didnt need a place to work, because there was only a small, narrow, table. The teeny TV was located in a narrow cabinet, along with snacks & items a traveler might have forgotten, such as robes or flip-flops, which we were warned not to open, lest we see the amount for same charged to our room (the flip-flops went for an over-the-top $23!) Lighting, both in the sleeping area (I am loathe to call it a bedroom) & the bathroom was limited. The staff was rude - not wanting to give me a paid in full receipt, saying it wasnt their respoinsibility. Final Words - save your money!

  • Although we enjoyed the friendliness of the staff and the design aspects of this hotel, most especially the public spaces, the room was simply too small. Ive stayed in many hotels with small rooms, and I was already expecting a small room from reading other reviews; however, I cant stress enough that the room was extremely small.Other minor issues that may concern some travelers: The noise from the street (The windows are not sealed well). The dark hallways (We almost tripped on a room service tray when rounding a corner). And the long check in lines.

  • First of all, good luck finding it - no signs, no indication from the outside that it is even a hotel. As everyone else is saying, our room was tinier than tiny. We did have a nice flat-screen tv mounted to the wall, though. The noise through the window had me convinced that it was open - it wasnt but might as well have been - very noisy! The ""african wood"" in the room was broken in places and missing trim pieces. The worst thing about the hotel is the hallways. They are very dark, extra-narrow, have very low ceilings, are painted floor to ceiling dark grey - very creepy. It was a long treck through a maze to get to our room from the elevator. The whole hotel is very dark - truly if you want to see anything, bring a flashlight! Advertised as part of the decor and design, the darkness left us wondering what they needed to hide. The glass wall seperating the shower from the bedroom is annoying, and we had to sit sideways on the toilet b/c our knees didnt fit. You have to climb over the toilet to get into the shower. Fabulous location, but many better choices for the same price.

  • The lobby is beautiful, the club/bar looks like a hot spot. The staff is helpful. The room and bathroom were very small. The door lock didnt work and the safety lock was broken. The room was very dark. My wake up call never happened. The room seemed dirty. The bed was horrible. The hotel may be hip but Ill stay somewhere else the next time Im in NYC.

  • If you want to be nickled and dimed- this is the place. Rooms are small, hotel is dark. The bar is nice, so visit while staying in another hotel. Price is much too high for what you get. I think the 12"" TV was made in Russia in the 50s. If you want to see anything bring your own flashlight. Spent three grand to rent a conference room for a day and then had to pay extra for the chairs.

  • The good: stylish and cool. Gorgeous lobby. Fast elevators. The bad: TINY rooms, (even by NY or European standards). Noisy. Staff a mixed bag.I stayed here because of the location (directly across from my friends apartment). It is also 1 block to the Time Warner Center, the subway and close to a natural/raw food store. The lobby and public areas are very cool, and worth a visit. The rooms are well decorated, but they are so small I could not even unroll a yoga mat. (about 12""between the bed and each wall) The bathroom was also miniscule, and had a clear glass wall into the room. 2 people would be falling over each other. My room overlooked 9th Ave, with a view of the river. Very noisy even with ear plugs. When my key stopped working the front desk was incompetent. I got 2 new keys which also didnt work. They called security and I waited in the hall for 30 min. Went downstairs again and finally got help. The pillows were feather, the sheets were cotton. My non-smoking room had burn holes in the duvet and smelled of febreeze. The desk light was broken. Smells of my neighbors bath products came through the bathroom vent. This former dormatory was given a stylish makeover but the basic structure is still the same. It is pretty but cramped, even by NY standards. If style at any cost is your thing, go for it. For the price you could get more space and just as good a location elsewhere. Stay somewhere else, stop in for a drink, see the lobby and pool table, and you will have gotten the best of the hotel without the pain. (I cant give it 1 ratings because it is soooo cool...but I really should!)

  • My husband and I are newly 60s and we loved it. Chose it primarily for location (not for its very trendy bar). For a 2-night stay it was just fine. Location was terrific, hotel is quirky and fun (admittedly it is dimly lit). We enjoyed our walks to Broadway shows etc. etc. We were lucky to have a 14th fl room with city view and king bed. It is what it is, fun, central, and a city hotel. Lots of nearby alternate choices to eat. Had a great time.

  • ....all the reviews on this location complain of the tiny rooms. Ive stayed in many NYC hotel rooms and this was, by far, the tiniest! My teenage daughter and I traveled and stayed in a standard room with one queen size bed. When she was sitting at the desk I couldnt get around her to approach my side of the bed. Our room was at the farthest end of the hallway from the elevator and made us feel like mice in a dark maze trying to find the wedge of cheese! The next morning my daughter went to shower and discovered that the shower was not clean!Ive stayed at another of the Morgans Hotels, the Royalton, and was extremely pleased. The Hudson was more centrally located for this visit and that was why we chose it. Needless to say, we wont be staying there again!

  • Though the price was great, and the rooms are cute, I was very disappointed at the quality of the beds. I have never slept on such an uncomfortable bed in my life and I think the hotel should be embarrased. The atmosphere, though hip, is a bit morbid within the actual hotel and needs to be livened up a bit. Room service is quick, but be ware that you will have to pay for every little tiny bit of extra service ($6 for 15min of internet???)

  • Id read some negative reviews about this place so I was really nervous even though I had gotten a good deal. Yes, the rooms are small and the hallways are dark but I found the hotel to be very clean and the employees were very friendly. And you cant beat the location! We were on the 23rd floor so I didnt hear any noise from the club. I thought the whole experience added to our adventure in New York. Its actually a pretty cool place. I would stay there again for sure.

  • I was a little scared at some of the reviews I had seen, but my whole opinion changed once I walked in. Yes, the rooms are small! If you have ever been on a cruise ship, well that sums up the size of the rooms. Seriously though, if your in NY how much time are you really spending in the room? This hotel was one of the coolest I have ever stayed in by far in NYC. The atmosphere was what you would expect of a typical boutique hotel, very urban feel . Very modern from the outside and going up to check in. Then it opens up to a beautiful hidden garden look to it. the glass roof covered in real ivy and a fantastic garden lounge area outside. I stayed on the 15th flloor not far from the private sky terrace with fantastic views of the city and river complete with lounge chairs and hamocks to relax. At night they have the best onsite bar and club! The hudson bar, reservations only, unless your a guest. Friday nights are packed and we had such a blast there!

  • I stayed here with my fiance for Valentines Day and its one of the best presents weve ever given each other. New York was freezing cold, there was snow on ground, but we had a wonderful time and never left the hotel. Hudson is like a sleek, self-contained little city. We ate, drank, and partied the whole time inside the hotel. This is not a great hotel for families or for those who want a big room. The room here was TINY. But I really love modern lines and funky decor and didnt mind the small room. Plus I loved the access that our room gave us to the Hudsons hot spots. You get automatic entrance to any of the bars or restaurants, even after theyre technically at capacity.

  • I went to NYC on business. I like eclectic hotels. My original room looked like it was still in use when I checked in. I have stayed in NY before...this was the smallest room I have ever seen! Step in and theres the bed! They told me they would be at different room with a new key for an upgrade after what i had received initially. No one came to the new assigned room. I had to go down with my luggage and ask for the key. It was dark, dark, and a like a 10 inch TV in the room for $599 a night! Only a shower stall in my new ""larger"" room. What a disaster! Go to the Hilton. Youll save money, the beds are luxurious, not a platform only 4 inches from the floor. I made a big mistake!!!
