  • This place has been completely renovated. The room was very nice and well worth the money. I have stayed in much more expensive places that were no where near as nice. It is very clean and has VERY comfortable beds. The desk staff were all very friendly and housekeeping was always ready to help out anyway they could. Would definately recomend this place to anyone traveling to San Deigo.

  • This place has been completely renovated. The room was very nice and well worth the money. I have stayed in much more expensive places that were no where near as nice. The location of the hotel was perfect for traveling to the local attractions like Sea World and the hotel provided free shuttles as well. Very close to many resteraunts and shopping centers. Only draw back was the pool location and there was no hot tub. Would recommend this hotel for family travel.

  • I give this hotel a excellent, anybody that is planning to come to San Diego for a Marine graduation this is the best place, the shuttle service from the airport, and to the Marine activities and back to the airport is great it makes your trip so much easier. The front desk clerk was really nice to us, she was great. The rates was excellent. we enjoyed our stay. Thank You Howard Johnson Seaworld for making things easy.

  • We had a downstairs room for the handicap and it had been newly renovated. It was clean except for the carpet and it was not real bad. Breakfast was good with the usual to choose from. Would stay here again.

  • We had a downstairs room for the handicap and it had been newly renovated. It was clean except for the carpet and it was not real bad. Breakfast was good with the usual to choose from. Would stay here again.

  • Our first impression was great because the guy at the front desk at check in was very nice and very helpful. Room was very nice. Bathroom was spacious and also very nice. It was nice to have a fridge and microwave in the room. My back didnt get along with the bed, but it might just have been the bed at our previous hotel in Anaheim. I understand that they have a shuttle to Seaworld but we didnt use it because we had to be to the park early and the rest of the time we were in San Diego, the park was closed because of airquality from the fires. We will probably stay here again.

  • This hotel was by far the most disgusting one we stayed in on our California vacation. Our hotel stays included a Motel 6 which was WAY better. When we opened the door of the room we were hit with a very strong smell of stale cigarette smoke. My first thought was updated rooms, ya right. The carpet had huge stains on it. The bathroom door looked like it had been kicked in and the area of the frame where the knob was was gone. To me it looked like a poorly cleaned up crime scene. The A/C also did NOT work and it was hot! My daughter and I both kept out shoes on while in the room. What a rip off for $* USD! Then to add insult to injury, when I checked out they asked for another $*for some Southern California security thing??? It was because there is a safe in the room. I already felt like I over paid by at least $*. The lady at the front desk I noticed also did NOT ask how my room was...probably because she knew what the answer was going to be!

  • We had to ask for coffee everyday. They left one pack which makes 2 cups and 1 package of sugar and cream. Everyday we had to ask for more. The staff was friendly. The carpet was very dirty. I had white socks on and they were pretty black by the time we left. The rates were good. I guess the old adage is true, "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR".

Pros: good price, great location (highway 5 is 1 minute away and the airport is 5 minutes away), free internet access, clean room, very comfortable bed, friendly staff, fridge, sofa, tv with many channels, nice bathroom etc.Cons: I could hear the persons tv next door. No big deal. I think they had it loud to begin with.

  • Let me first say, our stay was wonderful. After a long 17 hour drive from Northern Oregon to San Diego, arriving @ 5am, and check in not until 3pm, my daughter and I fell a sleep in our car. At 9am I woke up and explained the situation to the front desk, asking if we could check in early, and yes, they let us, right then. Our room was to cost in the $** range, but we were given the room for under $** a night for our 4 night stay. They provided ample ""free"" parking, a ""free"" shuttle, and continental breakfast, with hot ""self make"" waffles. The rooms were clean, and no smell of cigarette smoke. The decor was relaxing, and the bathrooms were very roomy. Maid service was quick, and did a very nice job. The staff was very friendly, and always helpful, providing maps ""even highlighting the directions"" on the map of places we wanted to go, if the shuttle did not take us there. There is an on-site Mexican restaurant, very good prices; I didnt like their mix drink that I ordered though. The hotel is situated in an area that you can walk to a grocery store, too many places to eat, fast-food, Sizzler, Olive Garden, and many more, and a wonderful In & Out Burger joint. I would most definitely stay at this hotel time and time again. I must say they San Diego is a wonderful place and is VERY Military Minded, as my daughter April, just returned to the states from Bahrain (Middle East) and is stationed in San Diego, Medical Base. I would recommend this hotel to everyone, they treated us with the utmost respect, oh and the beds, they are so comfortable; the air conditioner was great as well.

  • The hotel was located right at the heart of every attraction. There were extreemly helpful employees that provided information about any and everything (even wrote down driving instructions for me). The hotel was clean and provided the services I needed. Will definitely stay again.

  • After SeaWorld we take the taxi back to hotel, it around 3 miles, one point we even saw our hotel, but the taxi driver take us all the way to airport and come back, end up we need to pay $*. I writed down the driver name and the taxi number and call their office and they told me no driver name and taxi number found on their office.

  • After SeaWorld we take the taxi back to hotel, it around 3 miles, one point we even saw our hotel, but the taxi driver take us all the way to airport and come back, end up we need to pay $*.   • We stayed three nights in March 2009. This was a good hotel for the money. The beds and pillows were comfortable. The front desk staff was friendly and the breakfast has a good variety. The hotels seemed clean and in good repair. We had a little refrigerator in the room whch was nice. The property has a pool, but it is not heated.During our stay, I noted two negatives. First, this is an older hotel and the walls are very thin. Second, the hotel advertises a free shuttle to Sea World. The shuttle leaves at 10 and picks up at 5. This did not work with our small children, so we had to pay for the parking at Sea World.

First, this is an older hotel and the walls are very thin. Second, the hotel advertises a free shuttle to Sea World. The shuttle leaves at 10 and picks up at 5. This did not work with our small children, so we had to pay for the parking at Sea World.

  • Found the Howard Johnson to have cheap prices and great accomadations. Location was also a plus if you know where you are in the first place. I also enjoyed the hard boiled eggs which came with the Contenental Breakfast.

  • We chose HoJo based on travelers reviews - mostly for the location, but also because it said they had a fitness center and a pool as well as the free breakfast. Before I start this I must say that the people there are great, and if all you care about is fabulous service, then stay here. There is NO fitness center, the pool is a tiny wading pool and has not been cleaned for a very long time. We never saw anyone try to venture out into the bugs and grime in the water. Both of these were big disappointments to us. We thought online travel website was supposed to keep us informed on this stuff. The free breakfast brings to mind the old adage ""you get what you pay for"". They have waffles, but they are really sweet and my family of waffle lovers could not even get through one. They do have two whole types of cold cereal, a few muffins, blueberry bagels, and apples, bananas, and oranges, plus the usual coffee and juice machine. This room is locked after 9 am so dont expect an apple at noon. The rooms themselves are pretty grungy - except for the bathroom which has marble surfaces and was very clean and up to date. the carpet is full of holes and stains. The tv worked great as did the fridge and microwave. the beds were comfy. But the walls are paper thin, the doors let light in all around the edges & we heard every word, laugh and noise from the neighbors in the next room. We were told we could change rooms, but decided to grin and bear it. At $100+ a night is was too pricey for what we got!

  • Lukewarm showers were a huge turnoff. Outside building looks dilapadated and needs painting. Blanket had holes in it. No extra blankets in room. Several railings on the upstairs were in need of repair. Otherwise the staff was very friendly, they served a nice continental breakfast, and the beds were comfortable.

  • This hotel is very close to the MCRD. I appreciated the shuttle service which was always on time and the friendly staff. This hotel caters to marine corp families which I greatly appreciated. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone attending marine corps graduations. They also have a good mexican restaurant and there is a shopping center across the street. We took a bus to the beach and a cab to the zoo so I did not need a rental car. I would plan on renting a car if you have time to sightsee but the traffic is bad.
