  • Two friends and I made a quick trip to Chicago for an overnight to celebrate a birthday. Not being three who plan ahead very well... we found most of the city center booked since it was Labor Day weekend. However, we finally found this Holiday Inn Express so we booked it online while sitting at another Holiday Inn Express about an hour outside of the city. Turns out this location is the former Hotel Cass, and had been recently renovated into a brand new Holiday Inn Express! We were staying on its very first night after reopening! The decor and design were functional, yet really fun. Like all older buildings, the rooms were small, but we were very comfortable and really got a kick over being the first guests in a brand new room. We had minor issues with the air not working and the TV not hooked up properly, but these were fixed within minutes of calling downstairs. The hotel is on a quiet block, but very conveniently located just a few minutes walk from shopping and dining choices. The rate was a little higher than we really wanted to pay, but understandable for a hotel in the city center and on a holiday weekend. We felt better about it knowing that everything was new. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again.

  • This is one of the best hotels I have stayed in while in Chicago everything from the staff to the room and the advice from the door man on where to eat was the best I have ever gotten and being only 2 blocks of the mile is the best. The staff goes out of their way to help you with any questions. The staff here is one of the friendliest in Chicago. I will be back.

  • Getting to the room is a chore. The hallway to my room was at max 3 feet. If you have bags it is a tight fit. The cleaning cart blocked the entire hallway, which could be a fire hazard. Oh, one of the elevadors wasnt working, and Id heard one of the staff say that they break down all the time. So if you dont mind climbing 16 stories, go for it.When I first walked into the room, I was shocked at the size. WOW, they are small. The room on the top floor was tiny!!! There were 2 double beds that barely fit in the room. They had a great flat LCD TV, because a regular TV would not have fit into the room. No desk, no chair. I liked the sink in the bathroom, but again very small. The windows were open so mesqitos were in the room...someone didnt know how to latch a window. I ended up killing all the pests.Watch the valet, most of them are good, but the one they had Saturday morning let a luggage carrier run into a beautiful Mercedes.Front desk people were friendly, but knew nothing about Chicago. I knew where to go for food, and they didnt. They didnt even know who Harry Caray was or where his resturant was located (its about 8 blocks away, easy walk).Make sure you take everything. I forgot some nice leather sandles in my room, which were never found. When contacting the hotel, no one tried to help. I left messages, I called at least 5 times and no one was helpful. For the money, you can stay at a place called the Fairmont that is outstanding.

  • I have stayed at this hotel many times as it is very conveniently located and, though quite small, the room accomodations are satisfactory for business travelers or short stay guests.. My major reservation about this hotel is the front desk staff which is truly mediocre in their knowledge of Chicago and their ability to service guests efficiently and professionally. This is also true of the breakfast staff. The valet staff, however, are always more than pleasant and accomodating. I would stay here again as the pros outweigh the cons.

  • The hotel provided all the information we needed to get around Chicago. We went there to shop, sight see, and see a show. The location was great. We walked to every thing we needed to. And when we got tired the trolley system picked us up and took us the rest of the places. It was also a nice surprise to have a hot breakfast in the morning to start the day.

  • My friend and I visited Chicago over our Spring Break. It was our first time staying at a hotel without other adults and the staff was so friendly and helped out a lot! The rooms were beautiful and our room had an amazing view! The beds were also the fluffiest of hotel beds Ive ever slept on.As for the location of the hotel it was perfect. The exit on Magnificent Ave. is smack dab in the middle of great shopping and tourist attractions. We loved it!!

  • I was in Chicago for a conference and booked the hotel through the conferences housing commity. 215$/night. The hotel is in a great location. The rooms are very small. couldnt get around the bed without bending out of the way of the flat screen TV mounted on the wall. TV is flat screen but most channels are distorted because it is a 16:9 screen. No movie on demand either. Breakfast was very simple. Very poorly furnished. Only a tiny desk with a simple chair. No couch. Mind you, there wasnt any room for anything else. The worst thing was that the room (#1606) was close to the elevators and the wooshing of the elevators kept waking me up all night long. Very noisy, I heard similar complaints from other guests. When the hotel staff could not find me another room (they said it was all booked, even though I know people were checking out) I checked out and stayed at the sheraton for 220/night. In short, too small and noisy for the price they charge.

  • This hotel has a great location near Mag Mile. Also near many good restaurants. The room was a bit small for 4 people (2 adults and 2 children), but it was clean and in good condition. The free breakfast offered more food than I had expected, and it was very good. The parking garage was very close, as well. Our hotel stay was a very nice experience. No complaints!!

  • When you think of a Holiday Inn Express, this is NOT what you think of. Just because there are the famous cinnamon rolls for breakfast and a nice shower head in the bathroom does not make it a H.I. Express. We stayed with our two small children and were disappointed by the room size. We were barely able to fit in our pack and play and had to leave the stroller in the car. The parking garage attached had troubles of its own and we were barely able to get our car out. When I asked to speak to the manager, the front desk clerk told me she would have him call us and he NEVER did. They obviously didnt care about us or our stay. As much as I like Holiday Inn, we wont stay here again.

  • I met my sister and mother in Chicago for Moms Day. This was not our first choice of hotel and we were kind of worried about it after we read more of the reviews. So, we went with a positive attitude and it was better than expected. My sister said it was like being on a cruise ship...very tight in the two bed room. We did not spend much time there, too much to see. There wasnt much space to store things, but we improvised and got creative! (Hint: the chairs under the desk are useless and if you turn them around under the desk, a suitcase fits under there nicely.) The beds were EXTREMELY comfortable!!! The bathroom was rather tiny...but it worked just fine. The decor is beautiful and there was lots of room in the breakfast area for seating. Great breakfast. Service to get refills on these things was SLOW. The creamer ran out and it took forever to get the staff to refill. The doorman was very helpful as was the front desk staff. Word of caution, the 3rd floor is smoking. We were in 204 (nice room away from the elevator and great view of the front of the building), and when we returned one evening, it smelled like someone had smoked IN OUR ROOM!! If you are sensitive to this, be careful. We kept our window cracked while we were out to prevent the smell again. A non-smoking hotel would be great! Also expect long elevator waits if you are on the higher floors. All in all, we would probably stay there again. The location is AWESOME! Close to everything!!! Great restaurants around and several bars worth trying out. Easy walk to Hancock center and Water tower place. Excellent weekend!

  • If I were Holiday Inn I would be embarrassed to have my corporate name associated with this hotel. I see reviews where a major renovation happened recently, if thats true its going down hill fast. It is in a quiet neighborhood, but parking is non existant even to check in, I had to circle the block 4 times waiting for a tour bus to unblock the 2 space loading zone in front of the hotel. The lobby is deceptive in its modern appearance. The carpet in the halls on the room floor was stained and horribly dirty. The rooms are smaller than college dorm rooms, Ive never stayed in a hotel room this small before in my life. While the bathroom looked like it had new features and there was a flat screen TV on the wall, the overall decor was a throwback to the 60s right down to the puke green fabric headboard that covered the one wall above the bed. The bathroom sink didnt have a working drain plug, and the shower curtain was covered in mildew. Self park is virtually non existant, and the vallet is exhorbitant at $50/night.
